Anti-Vaxxers Say Krispy Kreme’s Free Doughnut Offer Is ‘Discrimination’

It would appear not everyone's happy with the news that Krispy Kreme will be dishing out free doughnuts to US citizens who have received the coronavirus vaccine, with anti-vaxxers saying the move is 'discriminating' against people.

Yesterday, the popular doughnut chain announced it would be handing out freebies until the end of the year, saying on Facebook: "We'd like to show our sweet support to those who have received the COVID-19 Vaccine. Starting today, bring your COVID-19 Vaccine Card to a Krispy Kreme and receive 1 FREE Original Glazed doughnut. Haven't had a chance to get the vaccine? This offer will run through the end of 2021."

But while many people welcomed the prospect of complimentary doughnuts, some social media users weren't so enamoured by the stunt.

One person commented: "Wow KK, I didn't know you were discriminating against people who feel it's their body, their choice to not get a rushed experimental shot from the government!? That's like saying if you are straight you get a free donut!"

Another agreed: "This is DEFINITELY discrimination."

Someone else wrote: "Looks like you are part of indoctrination [sic] of American citizens. If we're good and follow along we get presents. Soon we can get all kinds of free stuff if we go along with getting micro-chipped too, is that how it's going to work?"

The large majority of Facebookers, however, seemed pretty chuffed at the idea, with one commenting on the feed: "Awesome! Thanks for this incentive! Cracking up by all the conspiracy theorists on here. KK doesn't need your approval. Thanks for promoting health through unhealthy tasty treats!"

Another person added: "Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Thank you for supporting smart decisions. Greatly appreciated. I can't wait to get vaccinated!"

The offer started yesterday (22 March), and can be claimed in any of Krispy Kreme's 369 US shops anytime, any day, every day for the rest of the year.

The only catch is that you don't get to choose which doughnut you get, as it's the original glazed doughnut only.

Chief Marketing Officer Dave Skena told Insider: "Whatever little things brands can do to help make it past the pandemic are good things.

"I hope that other brands will see and choose to do something similar."

He added that getting vaccinated is a 'personal choice', but the company wants 'to encourage and make sure nothing is standing in the way'.
