Three Brothers Win The Lottery After Playing The Same Numbers For 40 Years

Three brothers from Australia are celebrating after their 40-year-long tradition of playing the same lottery numbers has paid off.

The trio, from Richmond, scooped more than $511,000 (£283,000) in their syndicate which they've been playing for four decades.

Speaking to TattsLotto about the win, one of the brothers said: "The win will be shared between my two brothers and me.

"It's a great amount of money. It will be a nice bonus!

"We play every week! We've been playing these same numbers for 40 years.

"I don't remember why we chose these numbers exactly. All I know was 40 years ago we each wrote down numbers and selected a ticket to play. We've been playing ever since.

"Yesterday after I checked the ticket, I spent about 10 minutes double-checking it to make sure it was right, and I hadn't made a mistake.

"I checked the ticket a number of times before checking the website a number of times.

"I just wanted to make sure it was confirmed and re-confirmed before I told them.

"Once I realised it was true, I had the honour and pleasure of telling my brothers we were division one winners.

"It was a great feeling to be able to call them and let them know!"

The brothers will share an AU $511,318.20 prize fund.

Earlier this year, a generous man from Wisconsin kept a 30-year promise to his pal - after they vowed to split a jackpot, if they were lucky enough to win.

Thomas Cook and pal Joseph Feeney shook hands and agreed to split any big win back in 1992 and Thomas made good on the promise after scooping $22 million (£17m) in the Wisconsin State Lottery.

Speaking after his big win, Thomas said: "It was quite an experience when I read those first two or three numbers. I kind of froze and handed them to [his wife] and she froze."

Thomas then had the joy of being able to tell his pal that they were both now very rich, to which Joseph replied: "Are you jerking my bobber?"

Explaining why he was upholding his generous promise, Thomas said: "A handshake is a handshake."
