A man who was sent down for stealing £24,000 off his own grandmother has gone viral thanks to his mugshot - and it's all down to his neck.

Harrison Davies took the money from his elderly gran between November 2016 and November 2018 to pay for his drug habit, he then also tried to steal another £1000 but police managed to catch him beforehand.

The 23-year-old, from Grimsby heartlessly used her details to open bank accounts and the bought goods and drugs with the funds.

But when police released his mugshot, people could only notice the length of his neck. He soon got memed, with people comparing him to a giraffe and ET, among other things.

One Facebook user photoshopped a photo of his head on to the top of a giraffe's neck. You have to admire the dedication to the piss-take.

One person commented: "Look at the stretch on that neck! Maybe the tattoo wasn't such a good idea."

Another mocked: "Went in for a neck tattoo and they charged him for a sleeve."

While another said: "At least he won't be running on the plains of Africa anymore, the rest of the giraffes will feel at ease".

Another thought his neck size should be used to determine the length of a prison sentence saying: "If only his sentence was as long as his neck."

Someone else joked about the struggles he must have when eating and drinking, saying: "Bet when he drinks a coffee it's ice cold by time it hits his stomach."

Cruel Davies applied for loans and bank accounts in his 78-year-old grandmother's name and using her details.

He then tried to lie his way out of it and even tried to blame a totally innocent person for his crimes. This led to an innocent person being questioned by police

His grandmother, who had looked after him from the age of one, said that she was left 'stressed' and 'shaken up' by the betrayal.

Grimsby Live reported that Davies' grandmother later said: "I feel extremely disappointed that Harrison has done this to me.

"He is very intelligent and is more than capable of getting a job."

The long-necked thief was sentenced to two years in prison. He was also ordered to have the phone he used to make some of the applications confiscated from him.
