Pioneering Brain Surgery Causes Parkinson's Disease Sufferer To Immediately Stop Shaking

Filipino man Jose Alvarez was forced to end his career when he developed the degenerative disease, which left him unable to properly walk or talk.

However, thanks to a pioneering neurological surgery that allows the patient to remain awake during the procedure, his crippling symptoms appear to have been miraculously cured.

In the video, the doctors start to operate on him, and his shaking hands become immediately steady.

As well as finding himself with vastly improved dexterity - fantastic, given that Jose is an avid guitarist - he's also noticed a remarkable improvement in his speech ability.

This incredible operation was performed at Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain Hospital in the Indian city of Bengaluru.

Without getting too technical - although it's basically impossible not to - it involved performing a right-sided Stereotactic MRI guided pallidotomy, which involves burning a circuit in to the patient's brain.

Told you it would be difficult not to be technical.

Anyway, the idea of burning a circuit into someone's brain tells you how difficult, complicated, but important this new type of surgery is.

You only have to watch the video and see the almost instantaneous results to understand how much of a difference this sort of procedure could make to people's lives.

Since the operation was carried out successfully, Jose's leg and hand tremors have dramatically decreased.

Overall, his movements have also become much smoother. It's not an exaggeration to say his quality of life has improved ten-fold following the surgery to his brain.

After a bit of time had passed following the surgery, Jose himself said: "Doctors have given me a new lease of life. I now experience freedom.

"I am able to stand and walk, perform my routine activities like bathing, dressing, eating food and drinking water."

Let's hope that more patients can receive the same treatment and see the same sort of life-changing results as Jose has.

This sort of procedure could finally see an end to, or at least a drastic improvement in the treatment of Parkinson's disease.
