Police have revealed the shocking and strange encounter they had while patrolling a freeway in America.

Troopers attached to the Utah Highway Patrol saw what they thought was an impaired driver asked the motorist to pull over.

They couldn't believe their eyes when they saw who was behind the wheel: a boy who is just learning his 'ABCs'.

A spokesperson from Utah Highway Patrol said on Twitter: "One of our Troopers in Weber Co. initiated a traffic stop on what he thought was an impaired driver.

"Turns out it was this young man, age 5, somehow made his way up onto the freeway in his parents' car. Made it from 17th and Lincoln in Ogden down to the 25th St off-ramp SB I-15."

A five-year-old boy driving his mum or dad's car on a freeway is already enough of a wild story, but the reason that sparked the bizarre stunt is even more outrageous.

The spokesperson from the Highway Patrol continued: "His story is that he left home after an argument with Mom, in which she told him she would not buy him a Lamborghini.

"He decided he'd take the car and go to California to buy one himself. He might have been short on the purchase amount, as he only had $3 dollars in his wallet."

Look, we've all, at one point or another, wanted to buy a Lamborghini, but our wallets and common sense usually get in the way. It's incredible that this boy said a big 'FU' to that common sense and cracked on with his dream.

It's worth noting that California is a casual 12-hour drive away from where the boy was located. Who knows how far he would have driven on a full tank of petrol.

Thankfully no one was injured while the boy was on the road. He had to sit right on the edge of the seat to reach the pedals and police say he could barely see above the steering wheel to see where he was going.

Dash-cam footage has been released, showing the moment that police pulled the little guy over.

"Where did you come from? How did you get this car?" a police officer can be heard saying. "Five years old. Wow."

A statement from Utah Highway Patrol said: "At this time, no citations have been issued and no charges filed on the boy or his family. UHP will forward the reports and other evidence from this incident to the Weber County Attorney's office for screening."
