Ardian Mula is a Foodhub spokesperson and said: "We already know that Britain loves its cheese. However, we're surprised at how well received the processed cheese slice has been.

"A lot of people turn their nose up at this product but, our research clearly shows it is the nation's favourite.

"Clearly much of this comes from the fact we love it on burgers and sandwiches.

"Cheese is one of the most versatile foods out there, so whether you're grating some parmesan on your pasta, indulging in a margherita pizza or even after a delicious cheesecake dessert, Foodhub has a wide selection of restaurant providers that will tackle those cheesy cravings."

From one extreme to another, a student was surprised to find that instead of the takeaway kebab she ordered, she instead received 40 slices of cheese in a takeaway box.

Sophie Stevens, 20, had been craving a kebab all day, and was looking forward to tucking into one that evening.

Eventually, she treated herself by ordering one - only to open the box that arrived on her doorstep didn't contain a kebab, but '40 slices of cheese'.

Sophie said she 'couldn't cope' as she opened up the polystyrene box to see the surreal cheesy surprise - which had been neatly arranged into an intricate tower of slices, which reminded people of a 'Christmas decoration'.
