Vegan Activist's Mission To Rescue 16 Rabbits Led To 'Nearly 100 Of The Animals Dying'

Vegan Activist's Mission To Rescue 16 Rabbits Led To 'Nearly 100 Of The Animals Dying'

A vegan activist claimed she was shot at while completing a rescue mission to save 16 rabbits from a Spanish farm. Reports now suggest her actions could have actually led to the deaths of nearly 100 animals on the farm.

The campaigner, who goes by the Instagram handle 'Mythical Mia', was left covered in blood after she said farmers had shot through a car window when she tried to escape.

Posting on Instagram, she said 'we entered a rabbit farm and rescued 16 lives,' but Spanish reports say that several of the animals that were saved had just given birth, leaving dozens of bunnies stranded.

According to the MailOnline, 90 bunnies had to be put down and an additional five rabbits died during the raid while others are said to have lost their offspring.

The activist, who boasts more than 40,000 followers on Instagram, posted how she had rescued 16 lives, but the MailOnline reported it was in fact 14, according to Catalonia police.

The police also threw doubt over Mia's claim that she had been shot at by the farmers, saying the damage to the window was not consistent with a shotgun.

Last week, Mia shared a video of her bloodied face and shattered window, as she told the camera: "This is what has just happened to us, I'm documenting the whole thing. I'm covered in blood.

"This is what the farmers have done. They shot through our window and chased us down the motorway. Oh my God, I'm literally covered in blood."

A spokesperson from the Catalonia police, the Mossos d'Esquadra, told MailOnline: "On Sunday, September 1 at 7.30pm, a group of activists entered a farm in Gurb, Osona, and took 14 rabbits.

"When Mossos d'Esquadra arrived at the site, the activists were outside. The 14 rabbits have not been found.

"There were some farmers at the scene and there was tension between the two groups.

"Mossos separated them and escorted them from the premises to avoid further conflict.

"Just before 11pm, we were informed that one of the windows of an activist's car had suffered an impact - and that a girl had injuries to her face as a result of the broken glass.

"The window was most likely struck by a forceful object, due to the nature of the impact, rather than a shot from a shotgun."

Responding to the claims that 100 rabbits died as a result of the rescue mission, Mia told LADbible: "This is false information with no evidence to back it up. We were inside that farm for less than five minutes and we only touched the rabbits who we rescued, who are all doing fine now, despite being very sick when rescued due to the filthy living conditions of that farm.

"We did not leave any babies without their mothers as we only rescued young ones. We had a professional vet on site with us the whole time.

"I would like to see the official documentation, vet report and post mortem of any of these claims, since I strongly believe that if any of the mothers were 'forced to have abortions' then it was definitely due to the horrific conditions they were already living in when we arrived that, thanks to us, have now been exposed.

"We have videos of a bunch of dead rabbits left to rot inside the farm and in the bin outside, who were already there when we got there. It's clearly convenient for them to blame on us a crime that was already committed by themselves before we even arrived.

"This industry has deceived the public for far too long, I will not tolerate any more lies from them."
