Prince George And Prince William Sing Along To Sweet Caroline At Jubilee Concert

Prince George and his dad, Prince William, were seen singing along heartily to Rod Stewart’s ‘Sweet Caroline’ at the Platinum Party at the Palace concert last night (Saturday 4 June), as part of ongoing celebrations to mark the Queen’s 70 years on the throne. Watch the ‘iconic’ moment here: 

The royals joined the crowds outside Buckingham Palace yesterday to enjoy a special jubilee concert, with performances from the likes of George Ezra, Adam Lambert and Eurovision star Sam Ryder. 

Rod Stewart even made an appearance, coming on stage to belt out football favourite and unofficial British anthem ‘Sweet Caroline’, following a vote from BBC Radio 2 listeners. 

As the audience sang along loudly to the Neil Diamond classic, the camera cut to George and William – who were doing exactly the same, cheerily waving their flags. 

The moment didn’t go unnoticed by viewers watching along at home, with one tweeting the clip, saying: “Prince George and Prince William enthusiastically singing along to Sweet Caroline at #PlatinumPartyatthePalace!” 

Someone else said: “Okay but Prince George knowing Sweet Caroline at 9 years old is f**king iconic #PlatinumPartyatthePalace.”

A third wrote: “Prince George singing Sweet Caroline. Best thing you’ll see today. Beyond cute. #PlatinumPartyatthePalace.” 

A fourth said it ‘might be the most British thing’ they’d ever seen, while another added: “Did you see little Prince George singing along to Sweet Caroline with Rod Stewart! Aww.” 

Later in the footage, his sister Charlotte was also seen waving her flag alongside mum Kate, who was singing along too. 

Before Stewart started his performance, he admitted that he hadn’t chosen the Neil Diamond song himself, encouraging others to help him with the lyrics. 

“The BBC made me sing this one,” he said, before urging everyone to ‘join in’. 

“Make it comfortable for me,” Stewart told the crowd. 

The track was chosen to appear at the concert by listeners of Zoe Ball’s Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 2. 

Ball said the tune was chosen due to its ‘uplifting, happy’ melody, saying it is with ‘a song of togetherness’. 

Paul McCartney’s 'We All Stand Together' and Queen’s 'We Are The Champions' were also suggested by listeners, but Ball said 'Sweet Caroline' came out as the clear winner.

She added: “We’re hoping also that loads of grassroots music groups and choirs and school bands and brass bands will learn the song and perform it too. 

“We really want to encourage the country to all come together.”
