Renter horrified after discovering landlord installed spy camera in home

The female landlord apparently told them she installed the cameras to keep an eye on the 'cleanliness' of the house.

Oh hell no.

A renter has just discovered that their landlord installed security cameras inside the property to watch what they're doing.

The tenant noticed the cameras sitting in the corner of the living room and facing the laundry, bathroom and lounge room area in their house in Victoria.

The female landlord apparently told them she installed the cameras to keep an eye on the 'cleanliness' of the house.

The tenant said she and her five housemates were told the landlord would be installing cameras on the outside of their property in Wangaratta, which they reluctantly agreed to but then they noticed two cameras had been installed inside the property.

The tenant shared their story in the Facebook group Don't Rent Me over the weekend.

"She's using them to literally spy on our activities in the house," they explained.

"In (the landlord's) words exactly 'in the 10 years I've been doing this, this is the only system that works and she WILL DICTATE how the house runs'.

The tenant said the landlord started sending her messages all the time asking whether she still had a job and what she was 'hiding under her Oodie'.

"She went on to tell me that she's been watching me walk about the house the last three weeks and asked if I still had a job because she didn't want people like that living in her house," the renter explained the group.

"It's none of her business if I have a job or what I'm doing home, I pay to live here not be spied on and asked why I'm home? I was on holidays but she doesn't need to know that.

"She's even asked me what am I hiding under my Oodie (wearable blanket) to take to the bathroom."

People in the comments were unsurprisingly horrified on the renter's behalf.

"I'd be emailing the PM [property manager] and telling them that you will be breaching them for privacy, include all the messages the landlord has sent to you about what's under your Oodie, questioning why you're home all the time etc. It's clear breach of privacy," one person suggested.

"What in the actual s**tballs did I just read?! Surely this is a joke?! I have no words, this is absolute insanity," another commented.

"That is insane. Cover them up. Cover the mic on them too, chances are she can listen," another added.
