Residents Receive Cards Telling Them To Shut Up At 10PM On New Year's Eve

Residents Receive Cards Telling Them To Shut Up At 10PM On New Year's Eve

The cards are a little passive aggressive, but many agreed with the sentiment

Ahead of the big New Year’s Eve parties that were held all around the globe last night, one resident of a neighbourhood in Texas decided to appeal for some quiet by asking all of their neighbours to keep down the noise after 10:00pm.

In a post that was shared to Reddit, it seems as if the disgruntled resident wanted to send a message to everyone who lives near them stating that they’ve had enough of the noise and want to chill out for a bit.

Of course, we can all see why someone might want that, but it’s a tough ask around the festive season, when everyone gets together and wants to have a big party.

So, this person went out and bought cards that read: “Wishing you joyful moments, happy memories, and a very merry Christmas.”

Here's the full card.

However, rather than a Christmas message, the cards went on to say: “Dear Neighbour,

“As we are all well aware 2021 has been a very difficult year for so many in our neighbourhood.

“For some it was a loss of job, for others a loss of income, and for many of us a loss of health.

“This holiday season we are asking each of us to come together by showing our kindness and consideration for these neighbours going through difficult times.

“It all begins by eliminating loud music and fireworks after 10 PM.

The card concluded: “The best gift we can give is a Silent Night.”

On the passive aggressive card, there was no return address, and the writing was all printed out.

Whoever was delivering them didn’t want people to know who sent them.

The original poster then later returned to provide some context. They live in Houston, Texas, and the message arrived on December 29, so clearly seems to refer to the New Year celebrations.

No fireworks, please.

They wrote: “It arrived yesterday [December 29], for context I live in an older neighbourhood built in the 50s.

“Most people that live here are older people and keep to themselves, but recently there have been people moving to this area due to being so close to downtown Houston without having the super high price of living closer to downtown.

“Honestly most of the noise comes from the apartments about a mile away because they like to shoot fireworks during Christmas and New Year.

“Not sure why they sent the cards to the houses as I've lived here for 27 years and I've yet to see anybody pop fireworks or have loud music anywhere other than the apartments.”

Still, the spirit of the message has divided opinion in the comments, with many leaping to then defence of the person.

One said: “While that's a little out there I'm not really opposed to the message.”

Imagine if they lived by this.

Another wrote: “Since when is being a courteous neighbour considered a bad idea?

“I would also be upset if somebody was playing loud music and blasting off fireworks at 10:00pm.”

Obviously, some think the person is being ridiculous.

Another comment read: “Because it’s New Year’s Eve she is trying to stop. It’s unreasonable. If there is one night a year when loud noise is expected and acceptable (to most) it’s New Year’s Eve.”
