With Valentine’s Day falling on the second weekend of the Milano Cortina Olympic Games, there’s been a touch of romance added to the event.
Well, the interpretation of romantic is certainly subjective in some instances, such as the athlete who confessed to cheating on his girlfriend on live TV.
But another instead used the platform to book in some dates.
Team USA luger Sophia Kirkby revealed she was hoping to find love in Italy as she became the ‘Olympic Village’s Most Eligible Bachelorette’.

“Hey gentlemen, this is your chance to go on a date with an Olympian,” she announced on social media as she appealed for dates ahead of today (14 February) with her platforms ‘up and running’.
And Kirkby has now issued an update, having apparently had ‘so many contenders’ for a date – 600 she says.

She took to Instagram yesterday to reveal she had been on her ‘first date in Cortina’ following her competitions, with the Women’s Double Luge ending on Thursday.
In the first image, she was sat in her Team USA jumper and beanie with what looks like a slice of pizza and a second showed a man’s body with his face covered by a badge from her sport.
Kirkby’s got quite the day lined up too, with two dates set up as well as interviews.
Ahead of her first date, she’s shared a video to reveal that she’s going ‘to the spa with a boy’.

“For the next four hours I’m doing recovery the only way I know how: spa + sauna + cold plunge after competition week,” she wrote, revealing she’d be wearing a red swimming costume for the occasion.
“Overall, I’m excited guys,” Kirkby said. “It’s Valentine’s Day and I’m going on my first date here in Cortina, Italy.
“It’s going to be great. I’m going to do some recovery, especially after I just raced the Olympics. This is a really good date that I’m about to have on Valentine’s Day.”
Well, I guess we’ll just have to wait for her next Instagram post to see how those dates today go down.
Kirkby told Women’s Health she was up for scheduling more dates if she can find the time.
“Everyone’s schedule is intense, and people are really locked in on their events,” she explained, adding that athletes are often more flexible after their events have concluded.
“But it’s also super social—there’s a lot of friendly energy, and people are excited to meet each other.
“I think athletes are down to have fun, especially once they’re done competing, but it really depends on where they are in their competition schedule.”
