Those teary nights chopping onions are well and truly over.

Those teary nights chopping onions are well and truly over.

Our prayers have finally been answered thanks to the news that 'tearless onions' will be hitting the shelves very, very soon.

That's right, Happy Chop’s Tearless Onions will be available in Woolworths across Australia for the very first time.

And honestly, it's about time!

Whether you're preparing a nice hearty French onion soup or even a beautiful bolognese, we always hate the part which involves chopping up the onions.

For whatever reason, as soon as that knife slices through the vegetable, you just can't help but start bawling.

Like Chris Martin describes in 'Fix You', tears stream down your face – and it's a bloody nightmare!

But when it comes to Happy Chop’s Tearless Onions, you won't be reaching for the tissues any longer.

The onion has been grown in a certain way meaning it contains less tear-inducing chemicals and its self-defence mechanisms won't be activated.

“As a natural self-defence mechanism, onions release a combination of natural chemicals and enzymes (or ‘volatile compounds’) that can cause some tears and irritation when an onion is damaged or cut,” Woolworths told Nine News.

“Happy Chop – Tearless Onions contain fewer of these compounds, and these compounds continue to reduce after they are harvested, compared to regular onions where these compounds increase over time.

“This means they become more tearless over time.”

This revolutionary onion has apparently been decades in the making thanks to countless trial and errors.

But now, thankfully, they're going to be available to purchase from July 12 for around $2.50 per 500g.
