iPhone users are loving a simple setting that could make your battery last way longer.

If you'e ever charged your phone up only to find it's on red just hours later, you'll know how frustrating it can be.

Lithium ion batteries - which are the ones used in iPhones - degrade and age over time.

So if you've had your phone for some time, the chances are its battery life isn't what it once was.

Knowing it's a frustration for many, Apple recently revealed how to keep your battery at its best for longer

And it's so easy to do.

There's a feature that can help keep your battery in good health.

Apple explain that the feature is all about reducing the amount of time your battery is fully charged.

This is because having your phone at full charge actually puts it under stress and can lead to it degrading faster.

On their support site, Apple explained: "As lithium-ion batteries chemically age, the amount of charge they can hold diminishes, resulting in reduced battery life and reduced peak performance.

"... Optimized Battery Charging is designed to reduce the wear on your battery and improve its lifespan by reducing the time your iPhone spends fully charged. When the feature is enabled, your iPhone will delay charging past 80% in certain situations."

Essentially, the '80% limit' is designed to keep your battery at 80 percent, rather than continuously charging it to the max.

routine so that Optimized Battery Charging activates only when your iPhone predicts it will be connected to a charger for an extended period of time," Apple adds.

"The algorithm aims to ensure that your iPhone is still fully charged when unplugged."

"Your iPhone uses on-device machine learning to learn your daily charging

Optimised Battery Charging is on by default when you set up your iPhone, but you can check it's on in the settings, too.

All you need to do is head to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging.

Pretty simple.

And people have been praising the feature over on Reddit, with one writing: "I’ve been using this feature as well. Hope it actually prolongs the life of my battery as I usually pass my phones down to family members!"

While another said: "I’ve always charged to 100% but with iPhone 15 Pro I’m going to give the 80% feature a go.

"It kinda makes sense in some ways, as like you, I’ve got chargers everywhere, and it doesn’t take long to top up the battery."

While a third said his friend was a 'battery engineer', adding: "He advised us to only charge our phones to 80% years ago."

"It's nice to see this actually being implemented."
