The latest Apple device can pick up on a sleep condition that often goes undiagnosed.

While fans of the tech company have been thrilled over the announcement of the new iPhone 16, today’s ‘It’s Glowtime’ event kicked off with the reveal of Apple Watch Series 10.

Marking just under a decade since Apple released its first smartwatch, this new device features the ‘biggest screen and thinnest design’.

Pretty much the biggest redesign since the Apple Watch first launched, the screen is ‘up to 30 percent’ larger than the other generations and is covered by ‘durable onyx glass’.

The body is also just a tiny 9.6mm, making it 10 percent thinner than the Series 9.

Apple Watch Series 10 features an updated speaker so you’ll be able to play your music and podcasts directly from it.

It will still be water resistant to depths of 50 metres and Apple boasts how it has a larger charging coil to enable faster chargers.

The tech giants claim it’ll therefore be able to charged to 80 percent capacity in just 30 minutes.

With CEO Tim Cook having spoke about how much he hears from customers about Apple’s impact on their lives, the new watch is set to feature a potentially life-changing health feature.

The Apple Watch Series 10 will be able to detect sleep apnoea which is when your breathing stops and starts while you’re sleeping.

This new feature will be possible due to the use of an accelerometer to measure breathing disturbances throughout the night.

Typically, it can be pretty hard to know if you have sleep apnoea with the NHS recommending you ‘ask someone to stay with you while you sleep so they can check for the symptoms’.

The sleep condition can lead to you feeling very tired during the day, waking up with headaches, having mood swings and finding it difficult to concentrate.

It’s estimated that about 80 percent of people with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) are undiagnosed and untreated.

If the Apple Watch Series 10 detects signs of sleep apnoea, it will alert you and provide a detailed report you can then share with your doctor.

Apple says this fancy feature is ‘medical grade’ but it is still waiting on FDA approval – expected to be ‘very soon’.

This detector will also be available on Series 9 and Ultra 2.

Pre-order for Apple Watch Series 10 opens today with shipping on 28 September.
