A couple took it upon themselves to crunch the numbers and break down exactly how much it cost them to run two Tesla vehicles after driving just 500 miles.
The cost of running electric vehicles (EVs) is still a point of intrigue for many, given just four percent of cars registered today run on electricity according to heycar.
Most electric cars have a range that's less than the average petrol car, but the difference in how much you pay might be more than you think.

Petrolheads may argue that the bellow of a V8 engine is what they look for in their dream car, but the reality is that more young people are gravitating towards environmentally-conscious electric or hybrid car options.
But if it's just cost that you're concerned with, then look no further - while electric cars may depreciate in price the same as normal cars, running them could save you a pretty penny.

YouTube creator Mac's Tech Toy Box took it upon himself to make a video sharing how he and his wife bought Teslas and just how much of an impact it had on their finances.
Obviously, as the cars run on electricity, they'd be expected to add a significant amount to their monthly bills.

But here's what really happened.
Electricity costs before getting Teslas
The American content creator shared that they were filming in the summer months in 2022, meaning that the air conditioning was on more than usual.
He revealed that in the first five months of living in their home without the EVs, their electricity bill averaged out at $225 (£184).
Mac explained that it factors in 'some highs and with some lows', given that they were living in Florida in the latter summer months.
Which Tesla models did they buy?
While his wife got herself a four-door saloon in the Tesla Model 3 Long Range, Mac bagged himself an SUV with the Tesla Model Y.

Due to the size of his vehicle, he admitted that the Model Y was being charged most nights in a week, a lot more than his wife's car.
How did their bill change while using the Teslas?
He revealed: "The bill actually went down - $214 (£175), down from the $225 that it was prior which is interesting."
Mac added that the summer months of this new period, with the air con on and the vehicles charging, had the bill at $267.32 (£219).
“Ok, so that’s quite an increase from the $214 with just me, but only slightly more expensive than that average of $225 from before I got any electric vehicle,” the YouTuber said.

Bill compared to petrol cars
He also explained that they'd spend roughly $320 (£262) filling their previous cars up with petrol every month.
So basically, the pair are saving huge amounts of cash with the Teslas, as they were adding just $50 per month onto the bill, a far cry from the amount they used to fork out to keep their cars running.
Mac advised: “If you are looking at purchasing a Tesla and you are worried about how much your bill is going to increase, I don’t think that’s something you need to take into account.”
