Wordle players have accused the game of ‘discrimination’ for not choosing a word that reflects International Women’s Day.

Players of the viral daily word game, which was recently taken over by The New York Times, have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts on Wordle 262 - and many hoped the game would reflect today’s important global holiday.

One user wrote: “What is this discrimination on international women's day? Just lost my streak”.

Jill Foster tweeted of today’s word, which ended up being ‘sweet’: “Really wanted today’s Wordle to be WOMAN but then remembered who recently bought it.”

“Today's wordle wasn't women. How dare they?”, Sonia wrote.

Another added: “IWD but the wordle word for today isn't women?”

After guessing the word correctly on the first try, Carla penned: “Women. Enough feminism for today I think”.

“That's enough activism for today,” a different player wrote of the game.

The latest Wordle reaction comes as the game was recently taken over by The New York Times after the original creator, Josh Wardle, sold the game for a currently unknown seven-figure amount.

The aim of the word game is to try and guess a five-letter word in under six tries.

Recently, a linguistics expert has told LADbible about their best hints, tips and hacks for the game. Read more here.

Wordle fans are also raving about a spin-off game for music.

The new game, aptly named Heardle, sees players decoding the artist and song name to a musical intro in as few tries as possible - and fans are loving it.
