A creative young mum managed to come up with a cunning back-up plan to do her hair for a night out after her curling tongs went missing by using one very simple household appliance: a radiator.

Emily Kendall, 22, almost cancelled her plans when she realised she couldn't find her curlers last weekend.

But when she spotted how hot the radiator in her room was, she realised there was an alternative.

Clambering down onto the floor, she twisted her long blonde hair around the copper pipe, and within 20 minutes she had beautiful, bouncy curls.

The shop assistant took photos of her ingenuity, posting them on Facebook - where they were shared and liked more than 22,000 times.

Emily, from Morecambe, Lancashire, said: "I almost cancelled my plans until I realised I could try the radiator pipe. I was so shocked when it worked.

"It's a good hack for when you've lost your curlers. It's a tip for people who didn't get [any] in the sales.

"I was getting ready to go out and was looking around the house for my curlers.

"Nothing was going right until then and everything just seemed to fall into place after discovering [it worked].

"I was trying to think where the tongs were and sat on the radiator because I was freezing. My daughter tried to touch it and I said 'no, it's hot'.

"Then I realised the pipe was there and thought 'oh, that might work.'

"I sat on the floor and tried to curl my hair around it.

"When I looked in the mirror and thought 'well, that one's worked', so decided to carry on.

"I thought 'oh my god' when I saw the first curl. I was shocked. I couldn't believe it'd worked.

"It only took 20 minutes and with my curlers it takes about 40. It's quicker and I'm saving on electricity in the meantime.

"The curls stayed in all night and the next day. I went out the following night with it still curled."

After impressing even herself with the new technique, Emily has vowed to keep going with it until she tracks down her curlers.

Emily said: "I've got a few Christmas parties and meals coming up, so I'll be using the pipes again.

"Luckily I didn't burn myself either. I usually burn my fingers when I'm curling my hair, but not this time.

"If someone had suggested this to me in the past, I'd never have done this.

"My friends loved it. They were all taking pictures of me because they couldn't believe it. They're inspired to try it now.

"It wasn't as hot as my curlers because normally my hair smokes with the tongs, so it must be better for my hair too."
