Woman who was abandoned as a baby reveals how she found her father 24 years later

A woman abandoned by her birth family has revealed what happened when she met her biological father for the first time.

Sarah Meyer had a tragic beginning in life, as she had been left as a newborn in a multistory carpark in 2001.

At the time, she appeared on This Morning in a bid to track down her parents, after she was dubbed the ‘Baby In Pink’ due to her being wrapped in a pink towel.

However, over 20 years later, she returned to the show to give hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard an update on her life.

After being left in the Surrey location as a baby, she revealed that she had been adopted after footage of her with ITV’s Judy Finnegan and Richard Madeley (who were the hosts at the time) was broadcasted.

At the time, Judy said to viewers at home: “This little sprog was abandoned in a multi-story carpark. She was barely an hour old, weighing just 7lbs.”

Once she was adopted, she shared that her new parents ‘always kept me informed about my past, done it the right way’ and even showed her clips in newspapers about her sad abandonment.

But at one point, Sarah wanted to know more about the people who left her, and decided to find them through the TV show, Long Lost Family: Born Without A Trace with Davina McCall this week.

There, she was able to make contact with her birth parents after DNA tracing located them, and shared what that experience was like after two decades of wondering who she was.

Sarah said: “I'm proud of my story. I wanted to find out what is out there but also wanted to show who is out there that I've had a good life.

“I understand they'd also have the question of where am I now - I wanted to show them that I'm okay and give them that reassurance. I'm at peace with it and they can put it to bed.”

Sadly, her birth mum was absent from the episode, and instead, her birth father met her. However, her birth mother sent the show a letter for her to read.

“My birth mother thanked everyone for looking after me in a letter. The amount of gratitude of the people who stepped up to be my family is immense, they don't get enough gratitude. Nobody thanks them,” said Sarah. “They are the start of the family for those people, Wendy was the start of my family.”

Wendy was the police officer who appeared on This Morning with Sarah as a baby in 2001.

Describing her birth father, Sarah revealed: “The fact that me and my dad are so alike is insane - my dad didn't even know that I existed. The way he welcomed me into his family was insane. My nan worked in the hospital I was brought into.”

As for where she stands with the woman who gave birth to her, she said she’s able to contact her at any time.

Sarah confided: “The door is open for my birth mother and always will be. I've had 24 years to process my story. My mum has had a much shorter amount of time to process it. Life is complex.”
