People From Edinburgh Nightclub Meme Reveal What Was Actually Happening

The meme has had the entire Internet coming up with all sorts of theories as to what he could've said to her

People can become memes for any number of reasons: an appearance on a TV show (Cash Me Ousside Girl), a scene from a movie (One Does Not Simply), or awkward or funny photo (Ermahgewd Girl).

But Patrick Richie and Lucia Gorman only had to go on a night out and get papped by the club photographer to go viral.

David Wilkinson

In the picture Lucia looks thoroughly unimpressed with whatever Patrick is trying to say to her over the music of the club, and the Internet has loved it.

The picture of the two 18-year-olds has now been made into various memes depicting the many conversations that could've gone down between the teens.

Some people guessed there was a pop culture reference as one tweet said: "It's just 'Bodyguard'. The Bodyguard was a 90s film."

Another person guessed he was mansplaining to her: "Actually 90 of the peers in the Lords *are* elected."

There was a theory he was commenting on Great Britain's chances in Eurovision that led one person to comment: "Nobody votes for us cos it's all political. If we sent Adele we'd still get nul points."

And there was even the idea that that Patrick was giving his thoughts on historical world affairs - because what else would you talk about on a night out?

Someone tweeted: "Yeah...so ultimately the same policies that Gorbachev hoped would bring about, like, radical change in the Soviet Union actually ended up hastening its eventual demise, see?"

Unfortunately, what Patrick actually said to Lucia is unknown - even to Lucia who told the BBC she was just 'ready for bed'.

She said: "I don't know what he said but I know I definitely wasn't having any of it.

"I feel like it was probably the end of the night and I was definitely ready for my bed.

"I probably just thought, 'I'll nod at anything at this point'."

Which definitely explains her 'can't-be-arsed' expression - I mean, who doesn't get to that point in the evening?

The couple were snapped by nightclub photographer David Wilkinson, who was at the club for an event with Love Island star Jack Fowler.

He told LADbible: "When I'm working I try to capture moments that're different, so when I saw them two I just took a quick snap of them.

"I really didn't expect it to be quite as big as it's turned out to be, I'm quite impressed with it. It's really funny what some people have come up with as theories of what he could've said to her, I've just lost track of all the comments."

Who knows what Patrick said? What we do know is these guys have definitely gone down in history as the Edinburgh Nightclub Meme.
