A selfie taken by Cristiano Ronaldo at the White House has gone viral as it features some of the world's most powerful and richest men.

Why was Cristiano Ronaldo at the White House?

The legendary footballer was invited to the President's home last night for a meeting between Donald Trump and Mohammed bin Salman, with the Saudi crown prince showing off the Portuguese forward as one of the things his country has to offer.

Saudi Arabia is currently focusing on a government programme called The Vision, which aims to achieve the goal of increased diversification economically and socially, without the reliance on oil. Playing host to some of the world's best footballers is just one of several paths it has gone down.

Despite Ronaldo now being 40, albeit with a far younger biological age, he is perhaps the best paid player in the world, reportedly earning a record-breaking $200 million per year. Alongside his many other ventures, this has seen him become the world's first billionaire football player.

Ronaldo recently spoke of his fondness for the US president during an interview with Piers Morgan, suggesting that that: "Donald Trump is one of the guys that can help to change the world.”

It's perhaps no surprise to see the Al-Nassr forward cosy up to the 79-year-old ahead of next summer's World Cup in the US, given that he hadn't publicly been seen in the country since 2016 after he was accused of rape in 2017 by former American teacher Kathryn Mayorga.

And that already seems to have paid off after he was pictured at the White House dinner last night (18 November), with Trump also speaking highly of the former Real Madrid man.

"This room is loaded up with the biggest leaders in the world - business, sports. My son is a big fan of Ronaldo... Barron got to meet him and I think he respects his father a little bit more now - just the fact that I introduced you," Trump said.

Who was featured in Ronaldo's selfie?

Following the event, South African entrepreneur David Sacks shared a selfie on his X account, which was clearly taken by Ronaldo and features some of the biggest names in politics and technology.

Sacks, the investor and Craft Ventures founder thought to be worth anywhere between $200 million and $2 billion, was pictured at the back of the photo.

He is seen standing alongside FIFA president Gianni Infantino, a man who was named on Forbes' most powerful people list and has a net worth of well over $3 million, as well Open AI president Greg Brockman, who will also have hundreds of millions in his bank account thanks to his senior role in one of the world's biggest artificial intelligence companies.

Further forward in the photo, we see Elon Musk, the world's richest man, alongside Howard Lutnick and his wife Allison. Lutnick, who has a net worth of $3.3 billion, is currently the United States Secretary of Commerce.

Finally, we see Ronaldo himself, next to his partner Georgina Rodríguez, who will finally become his wife after he proposed with an engagement ring the size of a small island earlier this year.

The photo is probably one of the biggest selfies since the iconic Oscars selfie from 2014, which featured the likes of Meryl Streep, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts to name just a few.
