'True reason' Donald Trump and son Barron didn't attend Donald Jr.’s wedding

Watching your children walk down the aisle on their wedding day is probably a pretty special moment but Donald Trump was seemingly too busy for his eldest son's second wedding last weekend.

Don Jr married Bettina Anderson in the Bahamas in May but was no doubt left disappointed that his father couldn't be in attendance, with the president shocking nobody by citing a love of the US as his reason for not turning up.

The 79-year-old is naturally busy in his Oval Office role, especially right now as he negotiates a war with Iran, so it could perhaps be understood if he missed Don's second wedding considering his decisions can affect millions of lives.

Taking to Truth Social to explain his nonattendance, Trump said: "While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so."

However, his estranged niece Mary, who presumably also wasn't invited to the big Bahamas wedding considering some of her comments about her uncle, has now suggested a different reason as to why he wasn't in attendance.

First, she posted to her X account to claim that he was actually off playing golf in Florida rather than celebrating love.

She wrote: "Can't wait to hear what the family-values crowd has to say about the fact that Donald isn't going to his own son's wedding bc he needs to - spend the weekend at his golf club.”

The claims gained traction online after it emerged that the United States Special Envoy for Peace, Jared Kushner, who is married to Ivanka Trump, was in attendance, despite reports suggesting that he was supposed to be negotiating with Iran.

Mary, who is often quick to analyse the president's decisions whether it's the war with Iran or his general mannerisms, doubled down on her claims and suggested that the real reason he didn't show was simply because he wasn't invited.

She said: “Well I don’t mean to be reductive, but this is essentially true that the reason we’re in this mess is because Donald never has been loved and, unfortunately, that is the thing he most wanted and still wants, but due to complicated circumstances my grandfather actually and my grandmother gets a little credit for this too, they made Donald somebody who desperately wants to be loved and who is utterly unlovable.

When asked about his absence from his own son’s wedding, Mary claimed: “Well, this is the other thing he’s incapable of loving as well. So it’s very difficult to be loved if you don’t love anybody.” Well, that's one way to look at it.

It's not the first time that the president has missed a big family event however, as he was also snubbed from the guest list of Barron's 20th birthday party back in March, even with wife Melania in charge of the guest list.

In some ways, it's understandable, as you might want to be the centre of attention on your birthday and that might not be easy if one of the world's most powerful men is playing beer pong in the background.

In fairness, you can't please everybody, and there's plenty of people who would have been going bananas if Trump was in the Bahamas in the middle of a geopolitical crisis.
