White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt has weighed in on the messy deterioration of Donald Trump and Elon Musk's relationship.
For anyone who was spending their Thursday night away from social media, former besties Trump and Musk suffered a very public breakdown in their relationship, culminating in press statements and a series of explosive claims on X.
Reports of a rift between the pair had begun to swirl as Musk's 130 day term as a special government employee came to an end. The Tesla and SpaceX founder left his post at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) several days earlier, reportedly over disagreements in spending plans outlined in Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill Act (yes, that is it's actual name).

The animosity between the pair has now spiralled into an open feud, with Press Secretary Leavitt declaring herself on the side of the US President.
Leavitt made her views clear by sharing a screengrab of a statement from Trump, shared on his Truth Social platform, where the 78-year-old called about Musk for his comments on the bill.
"I don’t mind Elon turning against me, but he should have done so months ago," Trump wrote.
"This is one of the Greatest Bills ever presented to Congress, It's a Record Cut in Expenses, $1.6 Trillion Dollars, and the Biggest Tax Cut ever given. If this Bill doesn’t pass, there will be a 68% Tax Increase, and things far worse than that.

"I didn’t create this mess, I’m just here to FIX IT. This puts our Country on a Path of Greatness. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
Leavitt has since reaffirmed her position behind the US leader in a statement to MailOnline, calling the spat a 'unfortunate episode' for Musk.
"This is an unfortunate episode from Elon, who is unhappy with the One Big Beautiful Bill because it does not include the policies he wanted," she told the outlet.
"The President is focused on passing this historic piece of legislation and making our country great again."

Leavitt defended Trump and his policies once again during an appearance on Fox News, telling Sean Hannity: "This bill is a huge monumental step in the right direction.
"President Trump is the unequivocal leader of the Republican party and this bill is going to pass."
Following his departure from DOGE, Musk revealed his opposition to the big beautiful bill spending, calling the legislation a 'disgusting abomination' and urging people to 'kill the bill' (via BBC).
Trump then addressed Musk's comments directly during a televised meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, suggesting the X owner had 'Trump derangement syndrome'.

The comments saw Musk respond with a series of extraordinary claims on social media, including suggestions that he was responsible for the Republicans winning the election and Trump's name allegedly being included in the Jeffery Epstein files.
Trump then hit back with another statement on Truth Social, writing: "Elon was 'wearing thin', I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!"
