People spot moment Donald Trump ‘cheats’ during golf game while visiting Scotland

Cheating allegations have been following Trump for years

People have dubbed Donald Trump the 'commander-in-cheat' after claiming to have spotted the president playing dirty during a round of golf.

The 79-year-old spent the weekend swinging clubs at his luxury Turnberry course in Scotland - and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer is heading there today (28 July) for a sit down with him.

The Labour leader and Trump are set to discuss trade, calls for a ceasefire in Gaza and securing peace in Ukraine, among other topics, before they head off to Aberdeen together for a private engagement.

The POTUS also met with EU Commission president Ursula von der Leyen yesterday (27 July), after getting in a few rounds of golf.

And while he was teeing up at Turnberry, footage which appears to show Trump rigging the game for himself began to circulate on social media.

In the viral clip, he can be seen driving a golf cart across the course while his security follow close behind in around 20 other buggies.

Two caddies can be seen walking ahead of the commander-in-chief - one of whom then appears to subtly drop a ball in a prime location for the president to take a shot from.

Trump - who sported a white baseball cap with 'USA' emblazoned across it - then climbs out of the golf cart and can be seen strutting towards the covertly placed golf ball, which he reportedly then took a swing at.

Essentially, people think he pretended as though his previous shot had landed there, even though the caddie was seen allegedly lending him a hand.

After the footage was widely shared online, social media users began sharing their thoughts on Trump supposedly bending the rules to give him an advantage.

One person said: "This is the story of his life, right here. Caddy tosses a ball on the ground, then POTUS pretends it's the shot he made," while another wrote: "Cheat at golf, cheat in life."

A third said: "The ‘commander-in-cheat'’ has always cheated when he plays golf."

A fourth laughed: "It wasn’t a very discreet drop!"

And a fifth chimed in saying: "Caddy did that so smoothly. Can only imagine how many times he's done it."

Trump's supporters also leapt to his defence, with MAGA fans questioning his critics' 'knowledge' of the sport.

"He’s throwing a ball down in case they can’t find his first one...you don’t know golf," one said, while another commented: "You don't have to play golf seriously all the time. Just saying!"

Allegations of Trump not playing fair have followed him for years, although he has previously claimed to have a handicap of 2.8.

Sports writer Rick Reilly even penned a book about the US leader's alleged transgressions on the golfing green, titled Commander in Cheat: How Golf Explains Trump.

The former ESPN star, who has played with the president in the past, hilariously said of Trump's supposed handicap: "If Trump is a 2.8, Queen Elizabeth is a pole vaulter."

He also wrote: "To say 'Donald Trump cheats' is like saying 'Michael Phelps swims'," in the scathing book, while alleging Trump 'cheats at the highest level'.

"He cheats when people are watching and he cheats when they aren't," Reilly claimed. "He cheats whether you like it or not. He cheats because that's how he plays golf. If you’re playing golf with him, he's going to cheat."

Reilly also alleged that Trump had previously 'tried to cheat Tiger Woods in a match', as the sports buff claimed he tells people that he gave the legendary golfer a good run for his money.

"[Trump] hits two balls in the water, doesn’t count either, and pretends that he almost tied Tiger Woods," the author told CNN.

Even Samuel L Jackson spoke out about Trump's alleged cheating in 2016 after they played a few rounds together.

When asked who the better golfer was between the two, the Django Unchained star replied: "Oh, I am, for sure. I don't cheat."

Trump then bizarrely responded by claiming he had never played against Jackson, saying in a post on Twitter: "I don’t know @SamuelLJackson, to best of my knowledge haven't played golf w/him & think he does too many TV commercials - boring. Not a fan."
