The US President refused to issue an apology to the former commander-in-chief and First Lady

Donald Trump refused to apologise when quizzed by reporters about the racist video he shared of Barack and Michelle Obama.

The commander-in-chief, 79, sparked outrage on Friday (6 February) after he uploaded the footage to his social media platform Truth Social.

He shared a 62-second clip, which made a string of claims about the 2020 presidential election and how it was supposedly stolen from him.

As well as pedalling false allegations that it was rigged in Joe Biden's favour, the video then depicts Barack and Michelle Obama as apes, while The Tokens' 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' plays in the background.

The video was then removed, before the White House claimed that a member of staff 'erroneously made the post'.

Trump's Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told LADbible the clip posted on his account was made by X user Xerias, who has also confirmed they made it themselves.

She stated: "This is from an internet meme video depicting President Trump as the King of the Jungle and Democrats as characters from The Lion King.

"Please stop the fake outrage and report on something today that actually matters to the American public."

When speaking to reporters on Air Force One last night, Trump claimed that he had not seen the clip in its entirety - before dismissing the idea of issuing an apology to the Obama's.

"I looked at it," he said of the racist video. "I saw it and I just looked at the first part, it was about voter fraud in some place...Georgia. There was a lot of voter fraud, 2020 voter fraud.

"I didn’t see the whole thing. I guess during the end of it, there was some kind of...that people don't like. I wouldn't like it either, but I didn't see it.

"It was really about voter fraud and the machines, how crooked it is, how disgusting it is."

Trump said he 'gave it to the people', while presumably referencing White House staffers, while adding: "Generally, they look at the whole thing but I guess somebody didn't and they posted it.

"We took it down as soon as we found out about it."

But he brushed off the mention of him making an apology, as Trump said when asked if he would say sorry: "No, I didn’t make a mistake I look at a lot of, thousands of things, I looked at the beginning of it, it was fine.

"If you look at where it came from, I guess it was a take off of the Lion King. And certainly it was a very strong post in terms of voter fraud. Nobody knew that that was at the end."

He then went on to insist that he is the 'least racist president' that has been in office 'in a long time'.

"Black voters have been great to me," Trump added. "I've been great to them and I am, by the way, the least racist president you've had in a long time, as far as I am concerned."
