22-Year-Old Gabriella Petito Who Was Travelling Around USA In Van Disappears

A 22-year-old woman who has been travelling around the USA in a camper van with her partner for the last two months has disappeared.

Gabriella Petito, known as Gabby to her friends, has been reported missing by family after she last spoke to her mum on 25 August from the Grand Teton National Park, Fox News reports.

They were supposed to be travelling to Yellowstone National Park, but it isn't clear whether they made it there.

Her mother, Nicole Schmidt, said: "I don't know if she left Grand Teton or not.

"I did receive a text from her on the 27th and the 30th, but I don't know if it was technically her or not, because it was just a text. I didn't verbally speak to her."

Petito and her boyfriend Brian Laundrie left Florida at the beginning of July to travel around the extensive national parks of the US.

On their way, they've travelled to New York, as well as Salt Lake City in Utah, where they had to leave because of wildfire smoke.

Their mode of transport - and living space - is a white 2012 Ford Transit van which has been converted into a small home.

It has since been recovered since Petito went missing.

They had been documenting their journey of more than 2,300 miles on Instagram, where the pair would regularly update their followers on where they were up to.

She had also started a YouTube account to document the trip.

In one Instagram post, Mr Laundrie said: "Downsizing our life to fit into this itty bitty van was the best decision we've ever made.

"With the limited space we wanted to take advantage of every inch, while also keeping everything minimalist."

On 10 July, Petito said: "After going on our first road trip across the country in my tiny car, we felt like there was just so much we missed.

"Turning this Ford Transit essentially into a camper was such an adventure in itself, but I couldn't love the way it turned out more!"

She added: "All the places it's brought us so far have been amazing! As soon as we got to the Great Sand Dunes I didn't want to leave, there was so much to hike!"

The couple have shared pictures from Colorado Springs, Zion National Park, the Arches National Park, Mystic Hot Springs, Great Sand Dunes National Park, and Bryce Canyon National Park, the Independent reports.
