Owners Struggle To Get Rid Of 'Haunted' House Despite Offering To Give It Away

The house's owners have said the house is free to anyone who can take it away and restore it

The owners of a spooky old house that's been compared to Amityville say they can't even give the property away, as people think it's haunted.

So if you've ever fancied owning your very own haunted house now's the chance.

The four-bedroom house in Younsville, Louisiana, dates back to the 1930s and has earned itself a rather creepy reputation over the years.

Estate agent Sylvia McLain, co-owner of McLain Investments, says she's put snaps of the house up on Facebook to try and tempt someone to take the house away completely free of charge so they can rebuild on the land.

However, due to numerous ex-residents claims of 'strange experiences' in the house no one is keen.

Sylvia admits to having heard 'all the stories' about the property being haunted by an old woman and says one ex-resident even called out ghost hunters to try cleanse the house of spirits.

But she says the owners would like to 'save the history of the home' so are offering it for free to anyone who is willing to 'move it to another location for restoration'.

Dawn Vallot DeClout, who used to live in the house, claims the house is haunted and that the spirit is her great grandmother Adele who was known for 'meddling in the kitchen'.

Dawn says her family owned the plot from 1860 and that she had lived in the house that was built on for a year back in the 1980s.

Dawn said: "We believe [Adele] is the ghost, but she's not menacing at all. She was probably like 4ft 9in and weighed about 100lb.

"She lived to be almost 90 and she was always digging in the pots, like when you have something on the stove and someone goes and looks in the pot and stirs it around.

"She was well-known for that, and so when we lived there, we used to hear her all the time jangling the pots when we had something on the stove.

"You could hear somebody picking up the lid but there was nobody in the kitchen.

Sylvia, who went to school with Dawn, said: "I don't know if it's haunted, but I do know about all the rumours surrounding the house.

The previous owner thinks the ghost may be her great-grandmother Adele.

"I am aware there's a lot of talk about the house being haunted.

"Dawn and her brother always tell the story that their great grandmother would stir the pot while they were playing cards in the living room. So yes, there's some really cute stories about it being haunted.

"And then the girl that lived in it who was the last tenant, everybody called her 'gypsy' because she believed in the spirits and all that stuff.

"The previous tenant even told us she had somebody come in and check for spirits."

So far there's been on interested party, but they pulled their offer when they realised it would cost around $80,000 (£64,755) to take it apart, move it, and reassemble it.

However, Syvia says it could cost as low as cost $40,000 (£32,377) to move it to a location that is nearby.

She added: "We'd have loved for it to stay there and have someone renovate it, but we realise it's progress and people have to move on.

"I had about 500 people respond to that post, but I can tell you that most of the people that gave us a serious offer declined it once they got the price to move it.

"If somebody had a property within a two mile radius and we could drop some power lines, it's possible to move it all in one piece but it depends how much is in the way of moving it.

"It's probably going to need to be taken apart in order to move it unless it's going really close.

"It's bittersweet. We know somebody will have a nice place with some historical value and a little bit of a story, but it's a chapter of our family that will be moving on.

"We probably won't tear the house down. We'll probably either restore it or find a place for it unless we have to."
