Woman issues stark warning over taking common supplement after testing positive on drugs test

The single mum was hoping for a better night's sleep

A woman has issued a stark warning after she had a positive drugs test at work.

Caroline Noble has blamed the surprise results on a common supplement she had been using to help her sleep.

The 39-year-old started using cannabidiol (CBD) gummies before bed each night after anxiety was causing her problems.

She had seen Cannaray’s products being advertised online and decided to try them out as part of her ‘health kick’.

"I see CBD everywhere and everyone seemed to be having it - and I saw Cannaray was endorsed by Claudia [Winkleman] and had been in all the magazines,” Caroline explained.

The single mum says The Traitors star's ‘endorsement gave it credibility’ to her so she trusted the company’s ‘assurances around their testing.’ She adds that she thoroughly checked the label that the gummies were tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) free.

However, when Caroline was selected for a routine drugs test at work earlier this month, her results showed high levels of THC.

The mum from Wigan has now been suspended pending an investigation.

“I was shocked when the man asked me if I smoke cannabis,” she said. "I said no of course - I said the only thing it could be was these gummies, but they're supposed to be THC free.

"They are doing more tests now and I'm suspended pending those results - I really could lose my job. I feel so resentful - my whole world has been turned upside down."

Caroline had paid £24.12 for the tub of 30 gummies, which seemed to be helping her sleep and an email from Cannaray says ‘a number of external factors - including diet, exposure to other products in public spaces, and the sensitivity or specificity of testing kits - can influence the outcome of a drug test.’

CBD is a natural compound found in hemp plants which can provide anxiety and pain relief and if it doesn’t contain THC, it has no psychoactive properties.

The gummies are described as ‘vegan and vegetarian-friendly, as well as free from THC, sulphates and GMOs’.

Caroline says she simply just wanted to get a better night’s sleep and yet she ended up ‘sent home and not allowed to talk to anyone’ from work.

The mum says she never does and never has done drugs, so she believes the gummies are the only reason for her positive result.

While her workplace has been understanding of her situation, they need to do their due diligence.

She’s not sure what to do while she waits and has filed complaints with Cannaray, as well as Food Standards Agency (FSA), Trading Standards, and Advertising Standards Agency (ASA), accusing Cannaray of false advertising and mislabelling.

The company responded and said it had reviewed the batch Caroline ordered, with the report confirming the product's levels of THC were non-detectable.

It recommended she discussed her results with a healthcare professional in case any medications she takes may have produced a false positive.

Caroline said: "The company's claims that it doesn't contain THC are more credible because Claudia endorses it. I'm not like a huge fan, but I thought it must be ok because such a high-profile person was influencing it.”

Describing herself as a ‘hermit’, she says she ‘couldn’t be more clean living’ and it’s not like she went off and ‘made a silly decision on a night out’.

"I have my dream job - I've been there a long time and there's no other role I'd rather be doing,” Caroline added. "And now I could be looking at dismissal - over some ridiculous gummies that are 'loved by Claudia Winkleman'."

Cannaray told LADbible it has been in 'ongoing dialogue with a customer' and are not aware of 'the timing, nature, protocol or result details' of her drug test.

A spokesperson said: "We take the removal THC from our products and all matters of product legality, safety and quality extremely seriously and we quickly offered to match the customer’s product batch number with our testing certificates."

Cannaray is 'confident' that its product purchased 'complies with UK legal thresholds for THC.'

It added: "We remain open to constructive dialogue and are happy to help this customer in any way that we can – having last contacted the customer on the evening of 9th July, to which we have not received a response. We cannot comment on the plethora of external factors outside of our control which may have led to the adverse drug test result."

LADbible has contacted Winkleman’s reps for comment.
