Trump's seven 'lies' called out by Iran as Strait of Hormuz finally re-opens

Trump and Iran appear to be on different pages

An Iranian official has accused Donald Trump of seven 'lies' and said that the Strait of Hormuz which recently reopened will not stay open if the US continues its blockade.

Trump made several claims on how talks with Iran were proceeding as he said the Strait of Hormuz was 'fully open and ready for business', but the American blockade would stay until his 'transaction' with Iran was completely done.

He also claimed that the US and Iran would jointly excavate enriched uranium and remove it from Iran, something the Iranian foreign ministry has said is untrue.

While the US president cut an upbeat figure about the state of talks between America and Iran where he said 'a lot of good things are happening' and downplayed the idea 'significant differences' existed between the countries in negotiations, an Iranian official appeared to contradict him.

Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf wrote on social media: "The President of the United States made seven claims in one hour, all seven of which were false.

"They did not win the war with these lies, and they will certainly not get anywhere in negotiations either.

"With the continuation of the blockade, the Strait of Hormuz will not remain open."

If there's no deal reached between the US and Iran during this current ceasefire then the war could be back on, so while Trump says Iran has 'agreed to everything' it doesn't sound like the Iranians are on the same page about that.

It's difficult to know how negotiations are going when different parties paint such a contrasting picture of events, as Trump claims the Strait of Hormuz is all fine and dandy again while he's still blockading it and Iran says it is currently open that's not going to continue if the blockade stays in place.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most economically important shipping lanes as 20 percent of the global supply of oil and gas flows through it, and disruption there affects the prices everywhere.

It wasn't so long ago that Trump was threatening to 'finish up the little that is left of Iran' and saying he had the 'best weapons ever made' pointed at them.

His claims about other aspects of the war and talks have also been called into question has he has repeatedly said other countries would be helping the US, only for that to turn out not to be the case.

Iranian statements have also not always held consistently, as they initially said the Strait of Hormuz was 'completely open' before saying any vessels passing through would need to sail on routes approved by them.

According to the BBC, ships appear to be moving through the strait again.

The outcome of negotiations to end the war remains a matter for the future.
