Up until recently, the ginger population have been the butt of some cruel jokes, thanks to viral sensations like the Angry Ginger Kid and the relentlessly savage portrayal of them on Comedy Central's South Park.

However, that image has done a 180 in recent years and now ginger men are getting more positive attention than ever before. According to recent research, anyway.

A study commissioned by Casumo has found that that ginger-haired people are currently superior to blondes and brunettes when it comes to sex, and that celebs like Ed Sheeran and Prince Harry are to thank for this rise in popularity.

The Mirror reported that the researchers discovered that one in five young male redheads admitted they've enjoyed more female attention since the 'Perfect' singer's rise fame.

A Casumo spokesperson said: "It's unsurprising redheads attract more attention than in previous years.

"Donning fiery red locks is popular among both male and female celebs with stars like Emma Stone and Isla Fisher leading the way for women.

"When it comes to gingers, the brighter the better."

The study also conducted a poll to find out which gingers the population found the most attractive. You won't be surprised to know that Prince Harry came top of the list, followed by Ewan McGregor and Damien Lewis.

So there you have it, looks like the red-headed population have brushed off the reputation as having 'no souls' and are now considered the hottest of the hot.

Although we've know this for a little while - it was nearly a year ago when the results of a study were released showing that gingers have more regular sex and more sexual partners.

The study, conducted by Hamburg sex researcher, Professor Dr. Werner Habermehl, looked at the sex lives of hundreds of German women and then compared the results with their hair colour.

"The sex lives of women with red hair were clearly more active than those with other hair colour, with more partners and having sex more often than the average," said Habermehl. "The research shows that the 'fiery redhead' certainly lives up to her reputation."

Turns out that red-heads are winning when it comes to between the sheets action. Psychologist Christine Baumanns believes this is because 'red stands for passion and when a man sees a redhead he will think he is dealing with a woman who won't mess around, and gets straight to the point when it comes to sex.'

If you say so, Dr. Baumanns...
