It sounds like one of those weird things you hear in secondary school, but this is science.
Apparently, if your ring finger is longer than your index finger - you've probably got a larger penis. Hey, I don't make the rules - I just report on it.
This is according to research published in the Asian Journal of Andrology. The study was carried out on 144 men (aged 20 years and older) who underwent urological surgery at Gachon University Hospital in Incheon, South Korea.
This particular piece of knowledge is apparently named the '2D:4D' ratio.
Not only can it effect penis size, it looks as though it can also make a difference in terms of libido.
The International Business Times reported:
"A new study reported sex hormone exposure in the womb determines finger length. Published in this week's issue of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers studied digit length in mice, which are considered to have similar digit ratios as human males and females.
"After exposing the mouse embryo to more male hormones, the mouse had a significantly longer fourth digit. More estrogen resulted in a smaller fourth digit. Almost all of the male mice in this group had genital defects.
"Professor Martin Cohn and Dr. Zhengui Zheng, biologists at the University of Florida, say the fourth finger is packed with receptors for sex hormones.
Sex hormones affect finger length, and the ratio is fixed before the bone has even developed, Cohn said. This happens during a narrow window of development, but it stays fixed throughout life."
So there you go. You can start frantically checking your hands now. Or did you start that after the first sentence?
