Mayweather Taunts McGregor With Watch Worth More Than You’ll Ever Earn

Mayweather Taunts McGregor With Watch Worth More Than You’ll Ever Earn

It's just one piece in a vast collection of expensive jewellery.

This might sound like a strange comment, but I actually feel sorry for Floyd Mayweather and his ever-expanding wealth. Sure, there are many out there struggling to make ends meet, but the 40-year-old boxer seems to be struggling to spend his vast fortune.

But what is the point of having a seemingly bottomless bank account, if no one knows about it. Well, luckily for us, Mr Mayweather isn't shy about flashing his cash and what he spends it on.

During last night's dick measuring contest press conference in London, Floyd Mayweather and his upcoming opponent Conor McGregor went head-to-head in a war of words. It was the final event of their world tour, promoting their August fight in Las Vegas, which has visited Los Angeles, Toronto and New York.

But in between Mayweather's constant yelling of the word 'yeah', he pointed at his Hublot watch, reportedly worth $1.4 million (£1.06 million), and told McGregor: "You're a microwave meal with a cheap-ass watch on - step your game up."

According to the Daily Mail, the undefeated boxer bought the incredibly lavish hand weight in 2015 during a spending spree in Dubai. While that might seem like an obscene amount of money to spend on something that tells the time, it's a drop in the ocean for Mayweather, whom Forbes claims has earned $700 million ($534 million) over his career.

The exact type of watch is unknown, but it bears an uncanny resemblance to Hublot's Black Caviar Bang piece. On its website, it claims the timepiece has a whopping 436 diamonds embedded into it, which, if you're asking me, is one too many.

But it wasn't the only flashy thing hanging off Mayweather's body last night which would have cost a small fortune. He was seen with five diamond necklaces and as many bracelets. And that was just last night.

The boxer regularly updates his 16 million fans on Instagram on how much pointlessly expensive items that he owns. If one pricey watch wasn't enough, try this collection he posted just last month.

According to him, that costs a cool $44 million (£33 million). The rest of his account features blatant paid promotional adverts for women's beauty products as well as luxury cars and fancy holidays.

But the boxer should be careful.

While I'm sure Floyd 'Money' Mayweather would have a security team rivalling that of presidents and prime ministers, flashing your cash can attract some unwanted attention. Look no further than Kim Kardashian's robbery in Paris last year.

Thieves took off with £9 million ($11 million) worth of jewellery, including a diamond ring with an estimated value of £3.5 million ($4.5 million).

But Kim Kardashian was criticised for showing off the pieces on social media in the lead up to the incident. French police spokeswoman Johanna Primevert said: "It was really the celebrity who was targeted, with possessions that had been seen and noticed via social media, and it was these goods that the attackers targeted."
