A man has pissed off the internet by posting a photograph of his 'Madeleine McCann Halloween fancy dress costume' on Twitter.

The bloke, believed to be from Ashington, uploaded a picture showing a dingy grey bathroom, a large mirror and a white sink, adding the caption: "I decided am going dressed up as Madeleine McCann for Halloween." [sic]

At the time of writing, the snap has been liked 271 times and retweeted by 104 people since it was uploaded on 17 October, with the man pinning the post to the top of his Twitter feed.

Responding to people who expressed outrage at his picture, he tweeted: "Why is everyone messaging me? I've just came home from work [and] just want a nice gym session and lasagne." [sic]

It comes as a fundraising page has been set up in the last week to try to raise £1.5 million in an attempt to 'prosecute' the parents of Madeleine.

Set up by Facebook user Adam Cruz, the GoFundMe page pledges to raise enough money to hire lawyers to build a case against Kate and Gerry, whose daughter went missing in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in 2007.

Supporters have so far pledged almost £18,000 to the cause. However, it is feared the page could be a scam.
