Teen becomes first female skateboarder to land rare ‘720’ trick

Teen becomes first female skateboarder to land rare ‘720’ trick

And she landed it, right in front of Tony Hawk himself.

A Gold Coast teenager has made history for becoming the first female to land the ‘720’ trick.

Daily Mail reported that Arisa Trew, 13, landed the impressive trick at Tony Hawk Vert Alert in Salt Lake City, Utah, in front of skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, who was the first to land it more than three decades ago.

“Monumental moment in women's skateboarding history,” said Christian Hosoi, a cult figure in the sport in the 1980s and '90s, as per the outlet.

The teen posted a clip to her Instagram while landing the 720, with the crowd going absolutely berserk at the women’s final.

She captioned the post: “I can’t believe I landed my first 720!!! and to be the first girl in the world to land a 7 in competition, thanks for the fun @thvertalert and everyone who helped me land it!!”

No surprises here, but Trew came in first place ahead of Asahi Kaihara and Reese Nelson.

According to Women’s Agenda, Tew said she was so ‘excited’ about the huge milestone.

“I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the crowd hyping me up,” she added.

Trevor Ward, the teen’s coach, revealed that the legendary Hawk himself helped the teenager with her preparation for the trick.

“It really was an amazing thing,” Ward said.

“We’ve worked really hard to get Arisa to this point right now. Just a lot of training, a lot of pain and she came through with the goods on the biggest stage in the world.”

“She did the 720 which Tony Hawk did in 1987 (1985), that was the first time to do it. And now she is the first woman in the world to do it, which is unbelievable as a 13-year-old.”

Just to put things into perspective, at 13, I was staying up all night on MSN, wondering if Josh Taylor would message me back.

Spoiler alert - he didn’t.

Earlier this year, the Gold Coast teen told skateboarding publication Slabzoo her dream has always been to become ‘a pro, getting sponsored and go to the X Games’.

Trew began skating at seven and is currently ranked 14th in the world.

Her recent win will undoubtedly give her a huge boost to make the national team for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Kudos, girl!
