Argentina fan captures exact moment country wins World Cup cycling to Buenos Aires square

Lionel Messi and Argentina won the FIFA World Cup final against France yesterday, and Bueno Aires was ready to celebrate

Incredible footage has emerged that shows the moment the last penalty was scored for Argentina to win the FIFA World Cup yesterday from the streets of their capital city. Check it out – it’s pretty spine-tingling stuff:

The match was almost unquestionably the best World Cup final ever to take place, with Argentina eventually triumphing on penalties after a topsy-turvy 120 minutes of football that saw the Albiceleste race into a two goal lead before conceding two Kylian Mbappé goals.

In the end, after a 3-3 draw the two teams had to be separated by penalties, with Argentina winning 4-2 from the spot.

Naturally, that sent the entire country into a frenzy, and it’s unlikely that the party has finished just yet.

But, one fan managed to capture all of the celebrations as they fully got underway as he was cycling to a central square in the middle of the capital, Buenos Aires.

They later shared the footage, which shows the entire city breaking down in unbridled joy, online where it has quickly gone viral.

The whole city went absolutely bananas.

After the video was shared around the world, it turned out that it was created by a Twitter user going by the name Daiii – or @inyourscript if you wanted to find them – who later wrote: “They told me that this video was going viral!

“I didn't even realise at the time that it was the last defining goal of the World Cup!

“In the video you can't fully feel it, but between the moment of doubt and everyone's shout of emotion, there was a silence of a few seconds INCREDIBLE.”

Incredible is about right, for sure.

The win in Qatar’s Lusail Stadium saw Argentina claim a first World Cup trophy since the days of the great Diego Maradona in 1986.

Arguably more important around the world was the fact that it offered Lionel Messi, widely regarded as the greatest player ever to kick a ball, the chance to lift the most prestigious trophy in world football, and the only one he was missing from his unbelievable career haul.

Buenos Aires is probably still partying.

This will most likely be Messi’s last World Cup game, so to see him pictured with the trophy held aloft above his head will have delighted fans way beyond the central square and streets of Buenos Aires.

However, he might not be done just yet, as after the game the 35-year-old indicated his desire to play on ‘as a champion’ for his country.

Speaking to Argentine TV channel TyC Sports, he said: “Obviously I wanted to cap my career with this and I can’t ask for anything more.

“What will happen after this?

“I’ve managed to win the Copa America and the World Cup almost at the end.

“I love football, it’s what I do.

“I enjoy being in the national team and want to continue by experiencing a few more games as a world champion.”
