Burger King Accuses McDonald's Of Copying With New Menu

Burger King Accuses McDonald's Of Copying With New Menu

McDonald's now offers an item that Burger King has claimed to have had for 15 years.

Burger King has accused McDonald's of copying one of its menu items after the fast-food chain revealed some new and returning additions this week.

You might have seen the billboards and TV adverts encouraging McDonald's customers to choose between the new Big Tasty with BBQ and the returning Big Tasty burger and the Big Tasty with Bacon, but it's actually one of the lesser advertised new additions that Burger King has taken issue with.

Along with the Big Tasty range, McDonalds this week announced customers would be able to get their hands on Homestyle Crispy Chicken, Chilli Cheese Bites and both the Crème Egg and Cadbury Caramel McFlurry from March 16th to April 26th.

Though many fast food chains have similar items on the menu, Burger King called out McDonald's for its Chilli Cheese Bites, comparing an image of the new addition to an existing photo of Burger King's version – also called Chilli Cheese Bites.

Turning the comparison into a meme, the restaurant added the photos underneath the well-known caption, 'can I copy your homework?', 'yeah just change it up a bit so it doesn't look like you copied'.

Burger King accused this particular imitation to have taken place 15 years after the original, writing: "not like it's been on our menu for 15 years..."

Burger King's Chilli Cheese Bites Pieces are available as a side at the restaurant in orders of six, nine or 20, with a description for the item reading: "Crispy coated with smooth and spicy cheese inside. A unique taste of chilli with every bite."

Meanwhile, McDonald's Chilli Cheese Bites come in orders of four or 12, and are described as: "A portion of four chilli cheese bites in a crispy batter, served with a rich tomato dip."

Though the addition of the item has clearly sparked some rivalry between the two restaurants, there's no denying McDonald's version is going down well with fans.

Writing about the new side on Twitter, one fan described having 'just ordered 36 chilli cheese bites from @McDonalds if you want to know how my night is going', while another said they were 'heaven on the lips'.

Still, Burger King has also received its fair share of support, with customers responding to its accusation on Facebook to promise that theirs are the best.

One person wrote, 'the burger king chilli cheese nuggets set the bar so high, they have never been beaten for taste and texture!', while another commented, 'Burger King ones ALL DAY EVERYDAY'.

At least Burger King can rest assured that McDonald's Chilli Cheese Bites are only around until next month – unless they decide to make them a permanent fixture, that is.
