A morbid theory has emerged after a mysterious ‘black ring’ was spotted over Disneyland.
Following previous incidents, it has once again viral that there’s a rather odd sight in the sky over the theme park in Anaheim, California. And some people think it’s a little more extraterrestrial than it is a touch of the magic of a certain mouse by the name of Mickey.
Conspiracy theories (and a fair few jokes) have done the rounds as people speculate over just what this ‘black ring’ is as some have made suggestions it could even be a UFO.
It looks somewhat like a ring of black smoke as one social media user joked it was the election of a ‘new mouse’ in a Disney-esque conclave. But some even suggested a darker theory.

Lori Nayahalski was driving by Disneyland Resort earlier this week when she captured a clip on her phone of the black ring over the park.
It wasn’t dissipating, nor was it a flock of birds,” she told KTLA. “Real-life Matrix or just an orchestrated spoof … I don’t know, but it was something.”
While there is some speculation on social media that it could be the sign of an ‘alien invasion’ as a UFO, there is also the morbid theory that it could be the late Walt Disney ‘signalling’ from the grave.
There have been previous ‘sightings’ of this black ring over the years too. Back in 2024, a visitor of the park’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge land took to Reddit to share a clip of two mysterious floating objects they had caught sight of in the sky while going onto a ride.
“Spotted tonight as we were boarding,” a user wrote. “The new alien ships added to [Rise of the Resistance] are pretty cool," as they joked about there being UFOs so close to the space-themed land.
The ‘real reason’ behind the black ring
Disney has previously confirmed what many hardcore fans of the park are well aware of about what these rings actually are.
Basically, they are just the smoke from pyrotechnics used during the nighttime spectaculars at Disneyland and the one sighted by Lori was the result of testing from before the park opened.
Users have also echoed this on previous ‘sightings’ as they explained: “These are the rings from the WOC-one [World of Colour – One, the nighttime show] performance from the fire parts of the show, I was at the WOC show tonight and saw both these rings.”
