Little-known Albanian destination Ksamil known as the 'Maldives of Europe' is cheap and just three hours away from the UK

The village has white sand beaches and clear blue sea

Would you rather spend 10 hours and a lot of money on a flight to the Maldives, or hop on a three-hour flight for much less cash and a very similar experience?

I definitely know my answer!

'But how?' I hear you cry. Well, it's all thanks to the beautiful country that is Albania, and the white sand beaches, crystal clear waters and nice weather that come with it.

One of the country's dreamiest destinations is the village of Ksamil, located on the Albanian River. The island is so close to Corfu that you can see the Greek island, but it's definitely not as well known.

If you're looking to visit Ksamil, you'll be able to stay in one of its small hotels, guesthouses or apartments before spending days enjoying one of its three main beaches.

The first, and the most popular, is Ksamil Beach, but there are also two smaller ones, called Monodendri and Gjipe.

Whichever one you choose, though, you'll be able to take a dip in clear blue water and take in views of the surrounding mountains from the sand, or from one of the wooden beds that hang over the sea.

Visitors can also enjoy quick trips off the mainland to the islands located nearby, the most famous of which is called 'Ksamil Islands'.

Just like in the Maldives, visitors can swim, snorkel and explore the coastline - without the jet lag wearing you out.

TikToker The Travel Mum is among those who have had the pleasure of visiting the village, after which she described it as the 'Maldives of Europe'.

The TikToker walked viewers through her trip to the village, which began with a flight to Corfu. From there, she and her family were able to get a ferry across to Sarande in Albania, where they rented a car and drove to Ksamil.

When it came to accommodation, she said: "We've booked a central two bedroom apartment for just £190 for six nights.

"It's a great base for enjoying the many beautiful beaches, but also exploring some great places close by. We've just spent £5 at the supermarket to feed five people."

Flights to Corfu can start at as little as £25, and the ferry to Albania takes just 30 minutes. Alternatively, you could fly directly Albania’s capital Tirana, then take a four-hour road trip to Ksamil.

Travel influencer Yuliia Berkuta has also praised the beauty of Ksamil, which she described as 'one of the most surprising places’ in the Balkans.

"This village is home to delicious seafood, a colourful sea and beautiful islands located a stone’s throw away from the village," she said. "I have visited Ksamil on two occasions now and recommend it to anyone travelling to Albania.”
