Legal brothel manager explains major '8 second rule' that they enforce at work

Catherine De Noire is spilling more tea on running the brothel

A woman who manages a legal brothel has explained its major ‘eight-second rule’.

Enforced as an integral part of the business, Catherine De Noire stresses that it isn’t just some guideline at work, ‘it’s a strict protocol’.

She has been running one of the biggest brothels in Europe for quite some time and has been open about her experiences with there being anywhere between ‘500 and 1,000’ clients each day.

De Noire has shared all sorts from ‘bizarre’ anecdotes to exposing the types of regular visitors or times people visit. She also researches sex work alongside her role at the business and says some of the odder stories don’t really involve anything typically ‘sexual’.

But whatever it is clients are going in there for, De Noire is sure to keep brothel staff safe.

Shared in a Instagram videos, she explained the ‘8-second rule’ as safety is a ‘key feature’ at the club.

“That’s why all rooms are equipped with panic buttons,” she wrote.

While inconspicuous, the presence of them is very important for the emergency procedures in the brothel.

“Every worker knows exactly where the panic button is located in their room, and they are trained on how and when to use it. If a situation becomes uncomfortable, threatening or escalates into an emergency, the worker can press the button quickly and quietly,” De Noire explained.

“The panic button doesn't make any sound in the room itself, which is deliberate, so the client remains unaware that an alert has been triggered, preventing the situation from escalating further. However, the moment the button is pressed, a siren sounds in the security office and the room number is displayed immediately on our monitors.”

She says that all means the security team are able to respond quickly – very quickly indeed.

“We operate under what we call the 'eight-second rule'. This means that, once the panic button is activated, security staff must reach the room within eight seconds. This isn't just a guideline, it's a strict protocol,” the brothel manager added.

In order to meet this protocol, staff have ‘regular drills’ and ‘scenario-based training’ so they are able to get through the building as quickly as possible.

When these alarms are triggered, at least two security guards rush to the room within eight seconds, unlocking the door and assessing whatever situation they face to safely de-escalate it.

Managers like De Noire get called in for support and to handle any follow-up to ensure everyone is safe.
