There are always going to be things about life that we don't really understand, and often the only explanation can be something out-of-this-world.
Whether it's the solar system, areas of natural beauty or Lionel Messi's left foot, people sometimes decide that these things must be alien in their nature.
Throughout history, humanity has looked for proof of aliens both on this world and further afar but even with the incredible James Webb Space Telescope at our disposal, we still haven't found conclusive proof.
While a secret CIA document claims aliens managed to 'merge into a single object' and turn 23 soldiers into stone, most of us will live our lives believing that the only place we can see aliens is in film and TV, but others dedicate their lives to researching these unearthly beings and UFOs.

And now, keen-eyed theorists have spotted what they believe to be a 'sign' off the coast of Canada, which they believe could be evidence of 'ancient alien visitors'.
UFO researcher Philip Mantle told MailOnline: 'There are no signs that alien life forms have visited the earth in antiquity and left evidence of such.
'It could well be a natural rock formation that looks skull-like. A bit like seeing faces in the clouds.'
Scott Waring, founder of UFO Sightings Daily, who spotted the shape, told MailOnline: "I believe ancient alien visitors created the skull. They did this to leave a sign behind for others to see that says, 'we were here first'."

The structure, which appears to take the form of a human skull when viewed from north, can be found on the northern coast of Cormorant Island and has left a lot of people wondering how it got there.
For anyone who wants to take a closer look, you simply have to load Google Maps in 3D globe view and search for Alert Bay, the tiny island in British Columbia, Canada.

While certain conspiracy theorists or alien fanatics might be convinced, scientists have provided a simpler explanation for the unnerving image.

"It could well be a natural rock formation that looks skull-like. A bit like seeing faces in the clouds."
Dr Robin Kramer, an expert on face perception from the University of Lincoln, added: "Our face detection system has evolved to be great at detecting faces and it makes more sense to err on the side of caution by occasionally seeing faces where there aren’t any, rather than missing faces where there are."
So, it's up to you to believe whether or not this is truly a depiction of a human skull but if aliens were to leave a sign, you'd be surprised if they picked somewhere so remote.
