Woman shocked after friend chooses name for baby that was only suggested as a joke

The unique name is definitely one to remember

Unique baby names are becoming more popular every year, with parents continuing to shun traditional monikers in favour of more unusual ones.

Others choose standard names but opt to switch up the spelling to add some originality to their little one's title.

Deciding on a name for your little one is no easy task, however, and many parents-to-be turn to friends and loved ones for advice when picking a name.

However, one woman was left stunned when she suggested a very unusual name to her friend for her baby son as a joke - only for her to then go ahead and use the name.

The woman recalled the story on Reddit, with many users shocked that her friend had used the name for her son.

"When my best friend was pregnant with her son, she had a huge list of names. On the list was Oliver. She asked me which one I liked best," the woman wrote.

She continued: "I told her Oliver, but I spelled it Aulliver as a joke (we were messaging). She laughed and the conversation moved on."

A few months passed and her friend gave birth, announcing the happy news on Facebook along with her son's quirky name.

"She'd named him Aulliver, I'm sorry my boy. I didn't think she'd do that!" the woman penned.

Fellow Reddit users were shocked by the name and recalled similar stories in the comments.

One person said: "You’re not the culprit, your best friend is a low key villain," and another person quipped: "Damn, should have gone with Awwweliver."

A third Reddit user said: "My daughters name is Daisy and when I was pregnant I jokingly told my coworkers I was going to spell it like Jay-Z. The amount of positive support I received was outstanding."

A fourth said: "This happened with my niece. Mum found the name Asia and suggested it to my step sister but also included the alternate spelling she found of Ayzha. Give you one guess which one was picked."

There's been even more unusual baby names circulating on social media recently, with people sharing their disbelief at the ‘absolutely wretched’ new monikers being shared by parents.

One user took to X with a list of ‘cursed baby names’ from last year.

On the boy’s side there was the likes of Brixton (yes, like the area of London), Coyote Bao, Leviathan and Sigurd Felix Wolfgang Atreides. Imagine having to call that one out in the school register.

Over on the girl’s side there were names such as Genyxis, Brexleigh, Randilyn Rosalee and Merricka.
