A dog might be a man's best friend, but in Charlie Cox's case, his pooch is more of a love rival.
The London-born actor, 42, has told how his pet has 'replaced' him in his family - and gets more attention from his other half than he does.
He said that his wife, producer Samantha Thomas, has 'a very effed-up relationship' with the animal which they welcomed into their brood after he wrapped his latest film, Merv.
Fittingly, the rom com follows the story of a couple who break up, only to realise that the dog they share together, Merv, has also been heartbroken by their split.

As a result, the estranged pair are 'forced into the world's most awkward co-parenting arrangement' as they try to find a solution to their pet's sadness.
The synopsis adds: "As Merv slowly gets his groove back, it turns out fixing their dog's broken heart may lead to a few sparks of their own."
Cox stars opposite New Girl actress Zooey Deschanel in the light-hearted Amazon Prime flick, which was released on Wednesday (10 December).

He explained that after starring in Merv alongside his canine co-star, a terrier-mix named Gus, he and Thomas decided to get a dog of their own.
The couple, who share two children, also got a goldfish while they were at it.
However, Cox is somewhat kicking himself now, as his pup has managed to muscle in on his marriage with his spouse of seven years.
"My wife and our dog have a very effed-up relationship," the Kin star told People. "They're way too close," he joked.
"Because I've been working a lot and I've been away, our dog has definitely replaced me in the family."
It is a dog eat dog world, after all.
Cox met his Mrs while working alongside each other on Marvel's Daredevil, the hit Netflix series where he starred as Matt Murdock.
The couple then got hitched in September 2018, after welcoming their daughter in 2016, followed by their son in 2020.

Cox is also well known in the showbiz world for his role as Michael Kinsella in the hit series Kin, which focuses on a fictional Dublin crime family embroiled in a gang war.
Speaking to LADbible in January this year, the actor described the gig as 'one of the greatest, greatest jobs' he’s ever had.
"Just being in Dublin, in and of itself was amazing," Cox said. "I hadn't spent that much time in Ireland before. Just had such a beautiful time, amazing people, amazing city, amazing country."
Discussing the prospect of returning for a third series of Kin, the father-of-two said he 'would love' to - but he admitted he wasn't sure whether it was on the cards.
Still, he'd answer the phone if the call come through to reprise his role as hardman Michael Kinsella.
"If they were to come to me with the possibility of a third season, I would jump at that chance, because I loved making it," Cox told LADbible.
"The actors in that show were just phenomenal. I felt very, very honoured to be, to be a part of it."
That is, unless, the producers also prefer Cox's pooch and fancy casting the apple of his wife's eye instead.
