Dax Shepard reveals what he really thought after Cher said wife Kristen Bell deserves better than him

He seems to have brushed the whole thing off

Dax Shepard has responded to all the hullabaloo after Cher appeared on his Armchair Expert podcast and said she thought his wife, Kristen Bell, deserved better than him.

Shepard and Bell tied the knot in 2013, and while they've often joked about their relationship, they have occasionally needed to set the record straight on how things were between them.

When the couple recently spoke to the singer Cher, she shared (or perhaps that should be 'Cher-d') her opinion of their marriage, and it wasn't particularly flattering towards Shepard.

She told him he was 'lucky' and that Bell was 'definitely the better half' in their relationship, and he graciously agreed but also challenged her to name names about who her opinion deemed to be a more suitable husband for his wife.

"Who would you like to see Kristen with?" Shepard asked Cher: "Who would be your dream partner for her? 'Cause I know you think she could be better, and I don't disagree. Who would be your pick?"

She admitted that she didn't know who might be better and said she trusted Bell to know better than her who she ought to be married to, though not without one last parting shot at Shepard.

"The truth is, I trust her. So you must have something that I don't see," Cher said, but fortunately, Shepard seems to have taken it as a joke and played it cool when he spoke about it later.

He told Access Hollywood at the Golden Globes that he and his wife 'both expected' Cher to say that, saying: "That’s why you love Cher, which couldn’t be greater."

Shepard said that both he and Bell reckoned Cher's comment was 'hysterical' and told Entertainment Tonight they'd decided to keep that clip in their podcast because they thought it was great.

However, he did say he thought 'the internet is a dangerous place' as he reckoned some people were taking what she'd said as a joke a little bit too seriously.

During their appearance together on his podcast, Cher did have some nicer words for Shepard as she said it was clear he was a 'good dad', with Bell chiming in to say he was 'the best dad there ever was'.

Shepard also suggested a positive trait for himself, which Cher could know, which was that he was 'not threatened by [Bell's] shining' as he said 'the shinier she gets the better'.

That was something the two of them could agree on as the singer said she thought the same about her partner, the rapper Alexander AE Edwards.

She said he was 'a slow burn' but that Shepard and Bell would 'learn to love him' and she thought he was 'almost too good for me'.

So it seems that all is well between them, and her jokes about their relationship were taken in the intended way.
