Jeremy Renner makes sobering admission after being told he'd never walk again following major snow plow accident

Jeremy Renner was seriously injured in a snow plow crash back in 2023

Marvel star Jeremy Renner has given an update on his recovery after his near-fatal snowplow accident.

Renner, best known for his role as Hawkeye in the MCU, was left critically injured in an incident involving a 7-ton snowplow near his home in the Sierra Nevada mountains in January 2023.

The actor had been helping his nephew retrieve a stranded vehicle during a snow storm over New Years Day when the over 14,000 pound plow rolled on top of him.

The horrific incident left Renner being airlifted to hospital in a 'critical but stable condition' with over 30 broken bones, including eight ribs, both of his legs in multiple places, his right shoulder, his eye socket and mandible, which led him to undergoing multiple surgeries.

It was almost very close for the star as his doctor informed him that the machine came 'within millimetres of hitting a vital organ or major nerve’.

Renner has since been open about his recovery, issuing a statement earlier this year which said: "I’m just so blessed that I have so many things to live for.

"I have a giant family, I have a 10-year-old daughter, I would’ve disappointed and really messed up a lot of people’s lives if I would’ve passed, and so there’s a lot for me to get better for.

"I’m also a pretty stubborn SOB and there was a lot for me to fight for, and recovery was just a one-way road in my mind."

He also shared an update showing that he is now walking again, with footage showing him walking on an 'anti-gravity' treadmill as part of his physical therapy.

In the year-and-a-half following the accident, Renner says he has since 'accepted' that his life will never be the same.

"I had to accept it for the rest of my life. There'll be nothing normal or as it was prior to the accident," he said in an interview with PEOPLE to promote his new partnership with shoe brand Brooks Running.

"By the way, I'm okay with that. It's making my life better. I'm healthier because of it."

"Recovery will be until I'm out of this old hot mess of a body. It was a way for me to really accept that it is going to be forever," he added.

However Renner went on to reveal that he hadn't always had the same mindset, but decided to 'change the perspective' after his mother was approached by his physical therapist.

He added: "My physical therapist said what I didn't want him to say, which is like, 'This is f***ing forever'. So I just manned up, chin up, let's go.

"Here we go. That's how we do it. We just change the perspective of it and let it be.

"At least I like wellness and taking care of yourself, for the most part. I think it's a pretty good thing.”

Following a year spent recuperating from his injuries, Renner has since returned to acting and has resumed work on the third season of Mayor of Kingstown in January 2024.
