We're living in an age where people are far too comfortable sharing their lives with the internet and now comedian Katherine Ryan has let couples know the 'three kinds' of sex they 'should' be having.
If you're fortunate enough to be off social media and the internet these days then you may well have missed the baffling bedroom trends that more and more people are starting to explore.
In the last few months alone, we've seen a man lose his virginity in a 'marathon session' and people share their partners with other swingers, and that's just the stuff that's on TV.
You really have no idea what your friend or co-worker might be getting up to and that's evidenced by the massive popularity of swingers cruises and festivals at the moment.

But while the rest of the world seemingly has unlimited hours to dedicate to the pleasures of the flesh, most folks have things such as jobs, hobbies and children which they need to juggle before even contemplating the idea of getting down and dirty.

What are the three 'kinds of sex' according to Katherine Ryan?
Speaking on the NearlyParents podcast last month with former Made in Chelsea stars Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo, Ryan started discussing her sex life, as she prepares to welcome her fourth child.
The comedian has never shied away from sharing her sex secrets with the rest of the world, controversially revealing that she once performed an X-rated act on her boss just so she could leave early.

And while she admitted that things do get harder between couples when you're expecting a baby, with jobs and kids also getting in the way, Ryan and her husband Bobby Kootstra still manage to find time for each other.
She explained: "The kids were very small, I was touring and working and we were doing it twice a month."
But things seem to have improved as their children have got older, and Ryan said they 'have sex about five or six times' a month now.

While the rest of the world is embracing strange positions such as 'hamstering', Ryan seemed dead-set on there being three 'different kinds' of intimacy between partners.

She joked: "I think you are supposed to have scheduled sex - which is not the most exciting one, but when your lives get busy and when you have children, sometimes you have to go, 'Look, there's a gap here... We should like meet up and have sex'.
"You should have spontaneous sex as well. And then, the third type was quickies. And once it's done you go, 'Thank God we did that'."
How often does the average couple have sex?
Ryan's numbers might sound big or small, depending on the reader, but it turns out that researchers have worked out roughly how much the average person manages to do it.
A 2024 study previously suggested that the ideal marker couples should 'aim' for is around once a week.

Meanwhile, a 2020 study titled 'Trends in Frequency of Sexual Activity and Number of Sexual Partners Among Adults Aged 18 to 44 Years in the US, 2000-2018', revealed how often people had weekly sex.
Just 1.7 percent of men and 1.3 percent of women in the study said they didn't have sex at all, while 5.2 percent of men and 5.5 percent of women did the deed just once or twice a year.

As for one to three times a month, 35.4 percent of men and 32.4 percent of women ticked the box on this.
Finally, 57.7 percent of men and 60.9 percent of women said they were doing the dirty weekly or more.

It is suggested that women who have sex at least once a week are generally sexually satisfied but I suppose that depends on the partner's performance.
Really, it's just a decision for you and your partner, and nobody is going to tell you you're doing it too little or too much unless you decide to share those facts with the world.
