Miley Cyrus has opened up about the sobering lengths she went to in order to hide her drug use.

The ‘Wrecking Ball’ singer has been fairly open about her sobriety over the years, with her journey starting back in 2019.

And while she previously admitted to having a relapse during the Covid-19 pandemic, Cyrus said her experiences all led to her writing her hit track ‘Flowers.'

But when things were particularly bad, she’d take certain measures to hide the money spent on drugs, particularly covering it up from her accountant.

During an appearance on The Ringer’s Every Single Album podcast, the 32-year-old said drugs were ‘the biggest cost.'

And in order to ‘hide’ them from her accountant, Cyrus ‘called them vintage clothes.'

“So she would get these checks. That happens on touring all the time,” the Hannah Montana star explained.

While her accountant would often wonder about these ‘vintage clothes’, Cyrus kept things under wraps.

“And every time she saw me, she'd be like, ‘Where's that, like, $15,000 original John Lennon T-shirt that you bought?’ It's like, ‘Oh, it's upstairs,’” she continued.

“We just really want to protect it. It's really delicate. The fabric got to take care of it. So I bought a lot of vintage clothes that year.”

But nowadays, she’s far from hiding her spending as she’s ‘so glad’ to have ‘survived that time.'

“I would definitely not encourage anyone else to go this hard, but the fact that I got through it, I'm very glad I got to do it,” she said.

Having opened up about her relapse in 2020 with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, she said: “I feel like I've really accepted that time and one of the things I've used is: 'Don't get furious, get curious.' So don't be mad at yourself, but ask ... 'What happened?'"

And during a chat with Rolling Stone, she said the relapse was related to alcohol: “I haven't done drugs in years ... From sitting here with you right now, I would say it would have to be a cold day in hell for me to relapse on drugs.”

With Cyrus having cut herself off, her mum Tish revealed during an episode of Call Her Daddy that she’d started smoking weed at night to help with her anxiety – with the encouragement of her daughter.

“That's how it started. And I started smoking to go to sleep. The tables have really turned though, ‘cause now [her daughter is] sober,” Tish said.
