Dad's really awkward reaction to son telling him he has an intimate relationship with his car

He really didn't know how to respond to the news

One father really couldn't mask his reaction to some very unusual news his son shared with him.

After finding out who - or what - his son was in a relationship with, the dad had no choice but to ask a series of painfully-awkward questions. Watch his reaction:

It can always be slightly uncomfortable talking about your love life with your family.

Yet, it can be even more awkward when your romantic partner in question isn't even human - or alive for that matter.

Well, this was definitely the case for Nathaniel, who revealed to his father that he was in a 'intimate relationship' with his car.

Yep - you heard that right.

On the TLC show, My Strange Addiction, Nathaniel began his confession by telling his father: "Yeah, uh, there's something pretty important I want to talk to you about."

The dad had no idea how to respond to the news.

"I'm just gonna come out and say it, I guess," he continued.

Without further ado, Nathaniel casually dropped: "I'm in an intimate relationship with Chase."

Chase is, by the way, Nathaniel's car.

The dad looks visibly stunned and was totally lost for words.

To make matter worse, Nathaniel then clarified through no prompting at all that the relationship was both 'sexual and emotional'.

Bear in mind Nathaniel was leant over his car and wiping it down the whole time whilst speaking to his dad.

"Your car?" the dad questioned for a third time.

Clearly needing some background information on the situation, the dad asked the question every kid fears.

"So," he began, "how does that work?

"How can you have sex with a car?"

Without any hesitation, and still keeping a monotone voice throughout, Nathaniel explained: "Mainly it's just a lot of rubbing up against him."

Bringing his hands to his head, the dad just responded with a deflated 'okay'.

Moments after, a whole avalanche of questions from the dad were fired at Nathaniel.

Nathaniel went into explicit detail of how he has a sexual relationship with his car.

The dad clarified: "You're in an intimate relationship with...your car? And sexually with your car"

Nathaniel answered 'yes' to both interrogations.

"It involves masturbating as well," Nathaniel decided to add.

After being asked when the relationship first began, Nathaniel said it started when he was younger and didn't have 'a lot friends'.

The dad chimed in with his son, noting: "You've always been kind-of a loner."

"I just started having those feelings more and more after I hit puberty and it just became more and more serious after that as far as the sexual side and the emotional side," he explained.

Trying to relate to his son, the dad explained that his vehicles are just cars to him and 'not a sexual object'.

"Was it because I wasn't really around?"

Looking inwards, he then asked Nathaniel: "Was it because I wasn't really around?"

Reassuring his father, Nathaniel stated that he wasn't 'blaming' his father for that.

"I know that it has something to do with it [...] because I wasn't around and I wasn't there for you," he said in an apologetic manner.

While the news came as somewhat of a shock to the dad, he concluded that he was going to support his son through the process.

"Hopefully we can get on a little bit closer and I can try to figure this out," he ended with.
