SIMPSONS DID IT!

***WARNING: GAME OF THRONES SPOILERS (AND SIMPSONS SPOILERS FROM 2017)***

Here's something to keep your spirits up after that latest episode of Game of Thrones, at least - among all of the destruction of both King's Landing and Daenerys Targaryen's narrative arc - we know that it has been foretold.

Not by the visions she had in the House of the Undying, or by Bran seeing shadowy dragons flying over the capital of Westeros, but by that great oracle and arbiter of all things yet to pass, The Simpsons.

Yep, that's a big old 'SIMPSONS DID IT' to the creators of Game of Thrones, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

To be fair, the folks behind The Simpsons has pretty much been spot on with everything that they've ever predicted. Well, that is apart from their unwillingness to predict the fact that their own show would stop being funny in about 2002.

All the way back in 2017 there was an episode entitled 'The Serfsons' which saw Springfield's most famous family take part in something of a Game of Thrones parody episode.

Towards the end of the episode, the famous yellow family gathers on some castle walls to overlook the destruction of their village by - you've guessed it - a crazed dragon.

The parallels between the two events are clear. Once again, The Simpsons triumphed where everyone else failed. You can keep your container walls and drones in Northern Ireland, Game of Thrones, Matt Groening and his team have you sussed out.

As for the latest episode of Game of Thrones, it's not good news. Daenerys Targaryen has completely lost the plot and - in a move that can only be described as 'out of character' - burned the capital of Westeros to the ground.

All that remains now is one singular episode in which we'll finally get a few answers as to why. Or will we? It's not even that clear anymore.

What is clear is that there are a lot of people dead, and a lot of people who are massively surprised to see their once great and just leader flying around on the back of her airborne steed, torching the very people she claimed to want to deliver from Cersei Lannister.

Funny how this sort of stuff comes around, isn't it?

Anyway, we'll have to wait and see how things turn out in Westeros. As for The Simpsons, it is still plodding along after all these years, despite the obvious drop-off in quality.

Perhaps we should be glad that Game of Thrones chose to quit while it's ahead. Well, sort of.

The final season of Game of Thrones concludes on Sky Atlantic on Monday 20 May at 2am, then again at 9pm for viewers in the UK and Ireland.
