There's a new Christmas film in the pipeline to officially kick off the holiday season.

Candy Cane Lane sees legendary comedian Eddie Murphy starring as Chris, who becomes obsessed with winning the neighbourhood's annual Christmas Light Flight.

To ensure he clinches the number one spot, the doting dad unknowingly makes a deal with a cunning elf, Pepper, who plots to possess Chris' soul.

The father soon realises the elf has made similar deals in the past and transforms her victims into Christmas figurines.

While racing against the clock, Chris and his family must stop Pepper from unleashing misery upon his friends and the community before he loses everything.

Murphy stars alongside Tracee Ellis Ross (Black-ish, Girlfriends), Jillian Bell (Rough Night), Ken Marino (Hot American Summer), Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation), Robin Thede (A Black Lady Sketch Show) and Chris Redd (Saturday Night Live).

The film has reunited Murphy with his Boomerang director, Reginald Hudlin, who's been waiting for his chance to make a festive flick.

“I can’t wait for the world to see Candy Cane Lane,” Hudlin said in a statement announcing the launch of the upcoming movie.
