Home Alone fans have terrifying theory about who Kevin grew up to be

Home Alone fans have terrifying theory about who Kevin grew up to be

The most bizarre origin story ever.

It's the most wonderful time of the year aka the time for Christmas movies lover to pick apart their favourites and potentially ruin them forever (or make them better) with bizarre theories.

After the edit that turned Elf into a thriller we'd definitely watch, 'tis the season for another festive cult to get the eerie treatment courtesy of a disturbing fan theory.

Released in 1990, perennial Christmas classic Home Alone has cemented its protagonist Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, in pop culture as the resourceful kid who's able to fend off the burglars played by Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern.

But what if Kevin grew up to be a serial killer? As far-fetched as it may sound, since 2014 some have been throwing that theory around, arguing that Kevin may have gone to become a murderer

And not just any murderer, but a specific man with a penchant with brutal killing from another film franchise.

In December 2014, a 'deadly serious investigation' from Grantland suggested that Kevin could be the sadistic Jigsaw who terrorises audiences in Saw and its sequels.

Is Home Alone the origin story of Jigsaw, aka John Kramer? It is certainly a stretch, but some are pointing out the physical resemblance between Culkin and Tobin Bell, the actor who plays Kramer in the horror franchise.

And while blue eyes and blonde hair, prone to turn cotton candy white with age, are not an indication of an actual similarity between the two characters, their tendency to torture their victims (and do so with gusto) could be.

There are some other elements that could link the two protagonists, including their communication style.

Both Kevin and Kramer relies on electronics to communicate with others, with the wide-eyed boy using an electronic device and the seasoned killer talking to his victims through a screen.

Other fans also pointed out that Jigsaw plans to burn someone alive in Saw II, a grim demise that could stem from Kevin's childhood terror of his basement furnace.

Not to mention the boy's fascination with his neighbours, who he believes to be a serial killer called the South Bend Shovel Slayer.

"For me it's totally plausible," one person wrote on Reddit.

"Kevin = Jigsaw both make intricate traps, both are homicidal, both have anger issues the bear trap from Saw looks like the furnace in Kevin's basement."

This strange theory travelled from the recesses of the internet all the way to Saw director and co-creator James Wan, who shut it down but called it 'awesome'.

"I should've known all along that Macaulay Culkin would grow up to be John Kramer. I think it's awesome," he told the Huffington Post in 2019.

"I'm very flattered that people take the time to have fun with all these fan theories.

"I think that's why I make these movies. I want the fans out there to have fun with them."
