The first teaser trailer for the hugely-anticipated Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery has finally dropped, with Daniel Craig back in action as detective Benoit Blanc. Watch the trailer here:

In the forthcoming film, we see Blanc travel to the Mediterranean to solve the latest whodunnit, arriving in Greece to ‘peel back the layers of a mystery involving a new cast of colourful suspects’.

Set to 'Habanera' from Carmen, the new trailer gives us our first glimpse of Blanc's latest case, as he's called out to the Med to investigate a mysterious set of invitations, a reclusive millionaire's private island and a wealthy set of friends - oh, and the small matter of a strange death.

We meet our glamorous new ensemble cast of Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista, Jessica Henwick, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Madelyn Cline, Janelle Monáe and Edward Norton, while Craig returns with his sublime Kentucky drawl as Blanc ominously warns the group: “Lock the doors, stay in your rooms... “Everyone is in danger.”

Thankfully, it sounds like Craig needn't have worried after admitting he'd forgotten how to do the accent he sported in the first film, having recently told Empire that he had to work with an accent coach for three-four months before shooting began.

“I’d forgotten the accent and I didn’t want to do a pastiche," he said.

"I wanted to make it as grounded and as anchored in reality as possible.”

The inspiration for the movie came from the sun-soaked beach holidays that writer and director Rian Johnson was craving during the pandemic.

“I was writing [Glass Onion] during the lockdown of 2020, and I wanted to be on a beach vacation more than anything,” he told Netflix fan platform Tudum.

Johnson also said the Knives Out franchise has brought him 'an intense amount of joy', explaining: "Working with Daniel in this genre and having fun with it and the humor, getting to work with a new group of actors every time, everything about it just brings me happiness."

He suggested that the new film would play with viewers' expectations just as much as its predecessor, adding: “The phrase I kept coming back to and talking about the first movie is, ‘It's a roller coaster and not a crossword puzzle.'

“It's a common mistake in writing whodunits, thinking that you're making a crossword puzzle, and that the fun is that the audience is actually going to analyse all this and figure it out.

"I know when I'm reading or watching a whodunit, I always let go of the notion of figuring it out about a third of the way through it.”

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery will premiere in select cinemas before being released globally on Netflix on 23 December.
